    No problem lah.

Just that I am finding this thread is for car cam users to share information n for ppl who wants to get car cam come in to harvest the information here. Wana do business, do it at another thread. Here discussion on the various car cams available.

Whether u are selling or not, just come in here to discuss n contribute. More than happy to have u ard.

    Lets keep to discussion only.

On the GSE580, mine now is set to EV -1.3 and I find it to be good. At night when there are cars in front, the image is great. But when on expressway or with no car infront to reflect ur headlights, the image becomes gainy/noisy. Daytime, like watching blue ray movie!!!

Will post the videos tonight. The IR mode is disappointing thou, colours all faded one.

Bro, I think its normal in IR mode...have you seen IR photography? Its the same....

    Example

Sorry, never seen IR photography before. But yes, the image captured is same as ur example. The trees dont look green. Very difficult to different shade of colour esp for light colours car like white n silver or gold.

IMHO, not very good if u are going to submit such video to police as evidence.

GSE580 with EV setting at -1.7 and at 3min mark, I switched on IR mode.

GSE580 with EV setting at -1.3

So which setting is better for nite recording???

-1.7 is definitely clearer in the dark but wonder how it looks like during daytime. i have yet to tryout my in the day. The IR function is quite unless in our brightly lit street.
probably -1.3 is a good compromise b/w day and nite.

Pardon me if i post link outside MCF, i have no intention to promote any of my sales at all!!

I have uploaded some videos of my settings used on GSE580 on youtube, please see my Facebook for more samples of the video. I too wanted to know which is the best setting for the night recording.

    http://www.facebook....171136206296780

I have tested alot more settings with video samples, but dont really have the time to upload to youtube.

Some settings i used makes the video turns so dark that cant see anything further than 1 car length laugh.gif.

Also i have asked DOD whether is there any firmware updates available for GSE580.
They replied me that "they are looking into software modification to make the video better".
I really dont know what software he refering to? Firmware? Software for video playback?
Never really chat much with DOD staff, as he rushing off from work & as he is meeting his friends for dinner. He will be on leave for 4 days .As upcoming Monday Taiwan having public holiday.

How hot is it? Cant touch with fingers or just warm. If just warm, let it be. If hot until cant touch with fingers, return the set to vendor. If u know how, remove the battery.

Very little only. Can store I think either 2 or 3 photos or 3 to 5secs of video footage. Its more for emergency use only and it will not overwrite.

Bought the camera less than a week so dunt know how long the battery can last after full charge. It is hot but still can touch. Just worry it may be explosive and cause fire. Thinking it become hot and under hot sun, it may be too hot. China battery a bit scary... i think better take the battery out...Thanks.

    Hi, Bros..

if u r considering this one, maybe better re-consider.

may be only the unit i got, but the recording (or replay?) speed is not "constant".

recorded in 1080p, on 16GB Class 10 Silicon Power microSD card. 3-4 secs recording gap between files.

Video is sharp but when viewing (on different PCs) parts of video "speeds up" and then back to normal.

just from video, it will give impression that the car itself was driven fast/slow/fast/slow even though actually at constant speed.

that itself is no big deal if only for own viewing but for blackbox "evidence" it can become arguable.

maybe firmware issue. Don't think it's the mSD card (tried on normal DV cam, no problem)

I got this cam too, from local supplier Shochong. But what I know from the specs given to me was that it is a 5mp lens (instead of 3mp as stated in the DX advert). Other than that, everything else, including the box design is actually the same as mine. So could the diff comes from the hardware inside?
I had reviewed the recordings and found no lags between files. I am using Transcent 8GB class 10 micro SD card.
Video is sharp and good. Car plates infront and car beside can be seen clearly.
But the video does looked fast sometimes, and slow sometimes, even at constant traveling speed. However that doesn't bother me at all.
Motion detection (I've tested at a range of 2-3 meters) is responsive.
Overall, the cam is acceptable to me, and I'm happy with the buy.

    Hi Adrianli,

Sorry to be blunt. wave.gif I have encounter 1x where my SHDC memory card is not in my GSE580 ( i left it in at home ). But GSE580 internal memory able to record about 3 min in 1920X1080. I just done a check, GSE580 has internal memory of 224MB. In fact thats the good point. thumbsup.gif

    Hi Bro,

You got to be careful when you remove the battery just incase you short the 2 wires +Ve -Ve.
Dont cut the cable in a go, do 1 at a time. As you know cutter is a electrical conductive, when you cut 2 at a go, you can short the both terminal. Hmm, happen to my workmates he do at a go & the battery has high capacity bounce1.gif

Yes, can DIY. Follow the manual.

    2) if i wanna have it in surveillance mode (24hrs ON and record upon motion/impact etc), how is the setup like?

Direct from car batt or fuse box. Remember to have a fuse n switch connected too.

if leave it for 1 week b4 next car usage can car battery sustain?

1 week??? Ur car battery will be drained. If really need to run one week 24/7, best is run from external battery pack. The next issue is ur memory card, it will not last u more than one day of recording in Full HD. U will need a hard disk DVR like those used commercially.

    3) its a new car also.. best to ask ppl fix or from authorised distrbtr or diy?

If its just plugging into the cig lighter, u can DIY. If need to connect directly for surveillance, get the car accessory shops to do it for u. I dont think AD will do it for u. They will send it to outside workshop to do n charge u the marked up price.

    thanks

    Hi Adrianli,

I have juz got my blackview unit after reading abt your positive reviews on it!

The video tat u posted using BlackView seems very clear leh, even can see car plate clearly.

But my was rather blur... At best can try to guess the car plate numbers only.
U mind sharing with me your settings in 'Video Output' and also the settings in 'Setup'.

One more question, when i try to view playback, it only shows clips from no.134 to 140(which is my last clip).
So wat happened to previous clips? Got rewrited? Mine was set to 5min per clip and using Kingston 4GB Class4 micro sd.

Lastly, any idea how to mute the recording? Cos I dun really like my talking conversation to be recorded.
Read thru the instruction manual liao but never say anything abt it. Only show where the speaker is.
    Kinda hate the speaker!

    Tks in advance...

Did u reformat ur microSD card??? If there are other files, Blackview will only use the available space only and overwrites the files it created. It will not overwrite the other files in ur microSD card.

Nope, no option to mute the mic. Either put a tape at the microphone or edit the video b4 submitting it.

What is the version of the firmware of your blackview? If it is the latest version 1.1 then should not be blur, but if yours is the v1.0 with the old firmware & chip used... thats explain y it is blur. Tested both version myself.. wink.gif

I kinda find kmplayer UI bad. I will still recommend vlc. It's almost idiot proof

Yup i agree, but some video files by some car dvr have problem playing back with vlc, guessed its the codec :\
kmplayer on the other hand, play all the videos fine so far..

This type of reckless cyclist are common. Some are pedestrians. They always think cars won't dare to knock them down as the law protects them. What to do? We (cars) can only shake our head and give way to them lor!

Hi, anyone using the DV668FHD from Speed Ong?

    I'm undecided between the DV808 and DV668.

Any comment in terms of video quality (day & night), ease of use, etc is much appreciated!!

    Thanks.

I'm using the DSX1080SP from Shochong. It looks exactly the same as the DV668FHD from Speed Ong. But the hardware inside I'm not sure if its 100% similar. If it is, you could read my comments on this cam posted on 1-2 days ago.

Thanks bro for the review, the codec of the player that is used to playback the video could cause the playback speed sometimes, try kmplayer & update me. Happy to know u r satisfied with the product. Cheers!

Xaiver, there's one observation I found. I left the cam on motion detection mode at 12am last nite. The cam's own battery was full when I left it. Later I went back to the car at 1am to get some stuff...and found the cam switch-off as the removable battery was flat. Between 12-1am, about 10-15mins of recordings were made as the motion detector did its work. However I tot the battery could last up to 2 hours + (at least as stated in the specs?) In this case only last an hour.

Alternatively, you might want to use a portable battery pack with at least 4000mah rating, theoretically it will last 8hrs on constant recording but if its set to motion detection mode, it might last more than 8hr

BTW, are you still having the playback sometime fast, sometime slow, even at contant driving speed?

Is this a recorder issue? Or got to do with the microSD card or codec used?

Yes, the sometimes fast/slow playback still exists. I'm referring to the DSX1080SP. But Xavier (the seller) said the problem is due to the media player. I have yet to test if what he said is true or not.
I don't have other issues on this cam besides the playback and short battery life. I mean, not yet untill I discover new issues, which are likely to be minor issues...
Will I recommend this model? Its hard to say as I don't really know what your needs are. My criteria are budget, clear pictures, no lag in file change, responsive motion detector at a reasonable distance. So far this cam has met all my basic requirements.
U may wanna take note this cam is square box type. Some bros may not like it. Many bros prefer the long slim tube "Blackview" cam, which is sleek in design and easily hidden behind the rear view mirror. This DSX1080SP can't be fully hidden there due to its size.
One thing I know about these cams are: there's no perfect cam! Every cam has its pros & cons, be it cheap or expensive make. If one goes on comparing and searching, there is no end.

As for the fast playback issue, maybe u should really try out on kmplayer.

Actually the playback is usually 'slower', it is seldom "faster'. But it doesn't bother me much as the image is still clear. If an accident occur, it still captures the scene well (whether slow or fast motion), and that is the most important thing.
Oh ya...the timer seems slow too, when the playback is slow. Good thing u remind me that.

I do drive everyday (on weekdays) but for very short distances only. Maybe 3km or less the most a day, to send/fetch my kids to/back from nearby school, total time usage is probably less then an hour a day. Then after the car is parked till the next day morning. Is that good enough to recharge the car battery after a nite's run on the cam?

The last i left my car without touching for 2 days. the magic safe device didnt kick in. It's still recording and 1 good point is if you see your power drops below 11.8 frequently. That also tells you your battery life might be up soon and needs replacing?

Thanks to all for your kind advices and comments on the vehicle recorder.
Took the plunge yesterday and bought the DSX1080 from Xavier.

Device is small and compact. Most importantly, day recording is sharp and clear. Not yet tested the night video yet.
Due to the squarish design, it is slightly visible even mounted behind the rear view mirror.
Video playback exhibits "slowness" (using kmplayer) but still acceptable to me.

Seller is friendly and responsive, even though I made a number of changes to our appointment.
He configured the recorder, explained to me the various menus & usage, even mounted it for me.

Thanks to all for your help!

Thanks for the kind comment bro glad that u like it.
    Cheers ! laugh.gif

    Hi Adrianli,

Although this video is just 8 seconds, but alot of things happening.

Not only you cold sweat but i also.
Things happen just too sudden & fast, i believe the Indian guy also shocked, can see his reaction on how quick he walk up the pavement. I dont know how fast is your speed? The Latio shouldnt go into the "Invisible Pocket" & still inching forward knowing a car is coming. Anyway ending part seems like knocking something, did it? as a saw a slight jerk.

Speed was ard 50-60km/h, not sure as I did not look at speedometer. Concentrating to avoid the Latio on the right and pedestrian on the left!!!

No, did not hit anything. The moment I saw the Latio inch out, I stepped on the brake(ABS kicked in) and start to swerve the car. I am lucky that I am travelling at a low speed and able to control the car. If at any higher speed, I think sure out of control and hit something.

Encountered this kind of situations a few times already. So now whenever I see cars turning right when I going straight I will highbeam as I approach the junction. Seems to work cause notice a few times the cars wanted to go forward but when I highbeam they e-brake.

From the video, it looked like your speed is >60km/h ! Or did u set it to 'fast forward' mode when u upload it?

Anyway it was really a close shave! If its an inexperienced driver on the wheel, maybe crash already!

Confirm below 60km/h. Its a small road over there(single lane open to two lane at traffic light), unable to reach any higher speed. If it was higher speed, I doubt I can still control the vehicle!!! Any sudden swerve at higher speed will cause the car to be out of control. My car not fitted wif ESP leh. laugh.gif

Anyway, yah, close shave. After I stopped and looked rear, the Latio already disappeared.

My car in the video playback will also appear to be faster than the actual speed (even at speed like 60km/h). It could be due to the perspective of recording/viewing.

My cam playback will (instead) appear to be slower, instead of faster. So it will appear as if I am driving slowly, and not speeding lor! biggrin.gif

Ok, mine is the same when it is in the "slow mode". But when the playback is normal, even 60km/h will appear fast.

Driving in city zone need to be more defensive minded.

IIRC, driving theory did mentioned slow down when approching a junction.

    Hi All,

From the video, it seems that the car travelling at high speed, but if you look at the timing embeded on the video, the timing seems normal.

Maybe the lens of the camera is a "Fish Eye effect" therefore things getting smaller & any moving object seems faster.

Whats the current view as to the best (quality) camera out there.

After following this thread closely last year.. I tried the Geocross V3000 and the video was awful.. So I then looked at the HD720P and F500HD and went for the F500HD in the end.. In truth I loved it! Didn't like the design, but it did what it did very well.

Unfortunately, 3 weeks ago, some scumbag nicked it from my car during the night, because my car kindly wound its windows down when I sat on my keys.. I have CCTV footage of him:

    http://www.mycarforu...-1318848220.jpg

and hte police know who he is, but I don't know if they are doing anything.

Anyway, after my disappointment of loosing it, atleast I can use the opportunity to upgrade.. The DOD GS600 was top of my list, but I read that its buggy, and I am not sure I like the idea of it recording my speed.. So I was tempted by the GS300.

Unfortunately, where as DOD sold it directly to me before, now they want me to go via their UK distributor and the price is ridiculous..

So what cameras are out there now, which have good HD video?

I want good video... Descrete design. And reliable software.. Anyone got any recommendations?
