What's the charges like for XT?

Looks like all the facelifted feature is nothing much to shout about. No talk about additional safety features on blind spot detectiom or eyesight too.

I don't need this features. This extra features will only increase the OMV and at the end increase the selling price. I prefer to check the blind spot, keep to my safety distance.

Those safety features of 7 air bag, traction control, ESP etc....are more necessary... and should be standard equipment for all car.

Fuji Heavy recalling over 80,000 Subaru vehicles in Japan

    http://uk.reuters.co...l-idUKKCN0WJ0EK

Would this be a deal breaker for the time being?

Vehicles recalls are so common its suppose to show the company is honoring its quality. Hardly a deal breaker.

Any which car coy doesn't do recall? Honda just did one few months back, I remember its in the millions. 80k is nothing.

Infratint is very average . I used it in the sunroof and Cool n Lite on the rest of car as supplied by AD. Cool N Lite much better. Just put the hand on the panel and can tell difference.

You are not making any sense. It's one thing that the manufacturer bothers to recall faulty stuff, but totally another when you still want to buy the exact same batch of potentially faulty stuff.

Regarding the numbers, Subaru makes about slightly less than a million cars a year. So thinking in proportion, they are like recalling almost 10% of their production in that period.

For Honda's case, their recalled 2.2m vehicles ranged from 2005-2012. Their annual output? A whopping 4 million plus cars.

that means Honda also close to 8%, not that much different statistically...

and logically speaking, FL forester can't be made that early in 2015....

That's actually my point. Putting things into perspective, a 80k recall is as serious as a staggering 2.2m case. Not even close to the statement of '80k is nothing'.

To be honest, it's very likely that the new fl frosty is not affected. But they are released in Japan domestically around Q3 last year. Given the proximity of time, isn't there reasonable doubt?

Then you find a car manufacturer that does not do recalls lor. I only know of China car brands.
Or you built the car yourself and make sure the parts you use have no defects. If it does, Doesn't it bring you back to square one then

Sorry if I sound silly, typing this in a haste and got distracted. Based on detailed reports, it seems like the affected models are 2014-2015. The FL Forester to singapore are probably 2016 batch.

What I want to put across is, so far i Dont see such recalls damping car sales. The Honda recall is just an example. I could have used Toyota or mazda as an example and then we will be arguing on different figures already. The thing is, we don't only issue recalls only when the faults are made know to public.

Its only when we hear horror stories on the ground and witness the faults, Saw articles on papers that talksd about the issues, with the manufacturer or dealers denying the fault or claiming its "fixed". Then its a Deal breaker.

    Sound familiar?

I mean, its comforting to know FL frosty are built later. but would it be more reassuring if we can find out the new FL still inherit the same problems. Hand brake and engine duct weren't on the list of updates.

On the darker side of story, manufacturers are more willing to recall retired line or batch of products. It doesnt mean the current line is complete immune of the same issue, just that if current line is going to be recalled, sales would tank.

    Good day to all brothers.

Just saw the papers intro the Forestor XT. Found that it's quite a good buy.
Wanted to read through the thread but it's more than 170 pages.
Can I ask some question for quick decision.

The OMV is $19k(meaning only take back ard $10k end of 10 yrs)
The HU can use for dvd viewing? Or rather can we upgrade to dvd?
Auto folding of side mirror?(anyone install?)
Electric tailgate only for closing? Opening is manually pull up with hydraulic support?

    Any other mods to recommend?

    =)

    - OMV lower than expected due to asome stuff fitted local to reduce cost. (HU and Leathers)

    - HU cannot view DVD, only can view some Video format (certain MP4), cannot be viewed on the move. Upgrade will involve changing the whole HU outside of MI. Some owners did it. Abit online buying need for the mountings and panels. Not all aftermarket HUs supports the steering controls.

    - Many installed, ask the SE to give. If not it's about 100 in MI, can deduct with points

    - Electric tailgate for both open and close. Probably the reviewer dunno how to use (you press more than 2 sec it becomes manual open)

Mods? You are talking about a Subaru here, what mods you think of doing?

But take note, Mods will usually throw warranty out of the window, MI quite anal about it.

Test drove Forester NA yesterday, was really surprised and impressed by the handling, steering feel, and also the pick up. The rear space was also very good. Only nitpick was perhaps the interior, especially the instrument cluster display could be updated to the color TFT screen found in the XV.

My concern was whether the transmission and differential fluids need to be changed every 20k as indicated on MI website as this increases the overall maintenance cost by quite a bit. To my knowledge, most Jap cars (auto or CVT) probably need to change the transmission fluid every 40k.

you should be glad that AD is willing to change transmission fluid for you. Many ADs do not especially conti ADs. If it's recommended 20K and AD is willing to change, then please do it. No point saving and having GB piang.

I would think most workshops, AD or independent, would be glad to do it since they will make $. My question was in comparison with other Japanese makes which recommends auto trans fluid change every 40k, instead of 20k as indicated by MI. Hope some Forester owners will provide some input.

For CVT of others brand, even if they recommend change at 40k, I will rather change early at 30k.

Compared to the price of the car here, I think this maintenance amount is really insignificance. ...

In-addition, comparing others MIJ 2.0L SUV, the up front price for the Forester already is a saving.

We are not talking about the power/performance of the XT yet.

If its indicated in MI means its part of the servicing checklist ba. Dont think you want to skip that.

Since its AWD, have to be prepared for addition all maintenance.

Actually imho 20k a safe timing for fluid change, esp for sensitive CVTs.

My old colt I resquested 20k change too although they say 30k, since its know to fail prematurely. Glad I did though, the box lasted me till now after 8yrs.
Oh yeah, for those concern, the CVT pd of the Foresters are chain driven, not belt driven unlike traditional CVT. Its supposed to be more durable and able to take the power and torque produced.

That's also why the typical "rubberband" effect of CVT cannot really be felt in the Foresters.

"rubberband" effect not due to chain or rubberbelt lah.. it's the way CVT works. hehe

You are asking about overall maintenance costs.

If there are more things to be done but costs are still comparable to other cars, then I don't think you will mind.

Subaru AD maintenance costs can be found here if you are not taking package (pay each maintenance)

    http://www.subaru.as...maintenance.pdf

Have checked for XV against other brands, XV is similar or cheaper than others.

You can check for Forester to see if also similar/cheaper.

Was told by SE that the boss want 300 out of the 400 shipment registered by 31 mar but likely collect 1st week april. maybe for accounting purpose.

Wow, that's mean by 1st week of April, at least 300 new Forester roll out on the street.

Just called my SE and was informed my white colour XT shipment will only arrive in April, as per previous communicate when I signed the order.

really informative, appreciate your inputs and feedback here. especially useful for buyers still considering this beast. I've test drove the forester XT and the outback, quite undecided between the 2. in terms of power/drive - both are almost identical (unless I floor the XT) in terms of rigidity and handling (I also test drove the levrog but the floaty suspension was a deal breaker for me); space - outback has a slight edge with the slightly longer boot and built-in crossbars; comfort - outback wins with its luxury creature comforts

what i wanna know, from guys with the forester rides already, does the 'dual-zone climate control' give enough AC to the rear? My current ride has rear AC, so I dunno if the Forester's lack thereof would be an issue with my passengers (namely my kids) - they've said they can't tell the difference - hoping to get feedback from guys who've been driving the forester for a while.

I did not test drive this before, but was surprised you mention the suspension floaty. So far all the review I had read locally and oversea all mention it had one of the best suspension set up. Comparable to many conti sport saloon.

I suspect the test car tyre pressure may be over inflated like all the new delivery car, thus causing the floaty feel.

more like under-inflated. Over-inflated tyres will give you a hard/firm ride...

Under inflation will give a ?draggy? ride?

One way to tell is to coast your vehicle towards the red light?

1?An under inflated tyre will feel draggy
2?A properly inflated tyre will feel nice
3?an overly inflated tyre will feel very smooth will little resistance?

    But ?B? is recommended?

Don't want to go into those physics of how the weight? temperature? speed n dynamic?

thought I share my review of the forester 2.0 NA after having it for 7 days in Hokkaido

Picked up car from Nippon rental on Monday.

Packed in 4 big luggage and a duffel still with some space to spare for my kids backpacks.

The version I got had the I-Sight features, lane departure and collision warning.

Driving out of the lot to our lunch stop, the car handled wonderfully through the gentle curves of the road and had to keep in mind to keep to the speed limit coz the car just kept wanting to go.

After lunch its time to head for the mountains to Niseko. Route 1 was closed and we had to make a detour through the mountains. Picture non-stop hair pin turns on Icy roads. First few turns had me going slow but confidence just came as we went along and the car ate up the 100odd km till we got to Niseko.

The little road into our chalet was packed with snow and ice. Engaged the X-mode and it cut through nicely. Snow wasn't deep powder type so it did fairly well

After 2 days of Skiing I decided to do bit of exploring on my own while the kids continue to ski. Went to the nearby towns of Kutchan and Lake Toya. Mountain driving was just fantastic as the first day. Hairpin turns after hairpin turns. Till I decided to check out an ancient temple where the route in was covered in snow. Drove in took a few pictures and on my way out I got stuck. X-mode and whatever just din help kept getting deeper into the snow.

Just then an uncle in a old Hiace came by spoke lots of Jap which I din understand, threw me a shovel and told me to dig my wheels out.

You will be amazed what they have in their boot, he had a tow cable and tow hooks. So while I was digging my wheels out of the snow he hooked me up to his van. Told me to drive out while he tug me when I got stuck. After half an hour of diging and hooking up I got out of it. Thanked the uncle and went on my way.

Apart from that episode, the car handled wonderfully, drive was comfy and firm when it needed to be.

Definitely a car worth considering. The getting stuck partcould also have been due to the snow tires having some wear and not totally attributed to the car.

Have fun with your new rides guys.

They have keyless as well for sure. For other markets, all these are options you can include/exclude. I remember seeing a fairly new model with manual windows, and manual side mirror adjustment (stick type), I think most sg owners would flip if they see new cars with that. [:p]

Locally (less the "premium" brands) most options are pre-decided for consumers and segmented into various trims. Afterall, the ADs knows best. right?? [laugh][laugh]

Price diff of 8k over 10 years.
For a bigger cc car. Sunroof, sport peddler ...

And it is within my budget.
When I was looking at xv about 3 months ago, it was about the price of forester quoted (104k).
So never really seriously considered the forester then.

Message is that anyone intending to buy a subaru must monitor their pricing strategy over a period of time to get the best value - at least save 2-3k. Those who booked last week lost 2-3k because they did not realise the last increase was abnormal as an indication that they need some space for supply to catch up.
