For those who are on the free solar film, a cheaper upgrade will be installing those custom (Groovy brand) sunshades that fit perfectly.

Costs $160-180 for the 6 side windows. Cuts out most of the heat and they are removable.

I also got 3M type car mats for $55, no smell, quite well made and fits well.

Both were purchased from carousell sellers: perfectshadesg and rosesbed if anyone interested.

Also tried self-applying glass coating but turned out far-from-perfect because I couldn't keep out the dust on the windy night. Ah well it's only a forester and its just usd50 for their "ultra" grade. I advise you to go to the professionals if you are particular. Otherwise you can try googling "Nina Enomoto TOP RUN CO., LTD." and ask for their sample

Sounds like solar film and rest of the freebies are standard issue since the cost to MI is minimum.

MI then band these as "freebies" for SEs to "sweeten the deal" so that buyers feel that they are so "smart" to squeeze it out of the SEs. Notice all those who opted out has to remind SEs not to install closer to delivery date? That is because the solar film is installed by default!

Of course how the SEs make use of this advantage differs amongst them.

Some no nonsense one will just tell you he will include all the freebies with 3K discount on first and only offer.

Some will wayang,... give you 1K discount first then later say 2K...and after you haggle somemore he will tell you ok lar, you drive a hard bargain, he will give you 2.5K discount and throw in all the freebies for his final offer.

FC are all depends on individual driver.

Different driver had different driving pattern, some more heavy foot, daily route more jammed. FC will be worst.

Others maybe light foot, but daily route also jammed. FC different again.

Another driver may be always super light foot, with light traffic route......

So at the end, still depends on how you drive..

If you're looking at vehicle with the same look and size, i guess the FC is quite competitive. Many folks who choose FXT are conscious that there's certainly a trade-off between power and FC.

Sharing the FC on my XT so that you have some idea. Mileage about 10k km, 60%highway 40%road.

    Best FC: 11km/l

    Worst FC: 8.5km/l

    Average: 9.55km/l

From what i hear, the NA version has got much better FC. 11-12 is definitely attainable.

Yes it is - but not how you expect it. The point of reference you're thinking is wrong.

You should be looking at an equivalent NA car and its fuel consumption to produce those torque figures, and a smaller-capacity turbocharged car can achieve that same performance on less fuel.

I would like to know last time those who drove Subaru ones are the maintenance of the car expensive as all of my colleague told me for their timing belt is very expensive to get and even their spare parts and among all the jap cars Subaru cost is the highest.. For me fc is not a concern but maintenance is a concern though.. Initially was considering this as 1 of my option since still got about 7 more months on my current car..

i will define it as semi-permanent bond. like window tint.

Curtains and removable shades are not affixed since they can be removed or drawn at a moment notice.

You need to compare a non turbo engine with 240bhp (probably a 3.0l engine) vs a 240bhp turbo engine, then you all see the difference in fuel efficiency.

Anyway its a 2.0, idling alone will waste a lot compared to an idling 1.5 engine.

Not going to go all praises and paint you a beautiful picture, 8 to 9 is as realistic as it gets for standard traffic driving in sg. Maybe a close 10 if you leave at a traffic efficient area.

11 or 12 is attainable, but you have to ask yourself are you going to drive everyday to "attain" at 11 or 12? Or are you going to driving like a normal driver and enjoy the car?

    :)

Oh.. Because they told me the boxer engine use timing belt.. most of the other brands of car I am familiar with except Subaru as not many of my friends are driving ever since the old Rex.. As far as I know big turbo 'Jia Orr You' when turning old.. I suppose Subaru turbo also same right every 5k do 1 servicing?

Forester no CEVS rebate, but instead there is a $5K CEVS surcharge. I booked the NA version in Feb. At that time the price difference between XV and NA was only $6K, so I didn't even look at the smaller XV. I also wanted a more retro & boxy looking SUV that is different from my dad's more modern looking Vezel.

Icic. See wrong. If rebate will see minus sign. Then surcharge already included in the price u bought? Then its a good deal for a bigger TURBO. Should toyota learn to put in turbo to altis but too bad, thai made will break into pieces. Funny talking abt my coming ride. Few years later then see hw. Maybe coe drop so low, i will wnt to try wrx for the boom boom engine sound. Super awesome

If XV suits your needs then get XV. I think not much difference in interior except for the exterior.

1.6L is very sufficient for Singapore Roads.. dont say.. Even NSH also no problem haha

Better check with MI on changing rims.. whatever u change in the car sure void warranty wan. Later change rims, they void your suspension warranty. Alot of BS wan la..

Icic.

So what is your coming ride?

I think he booked a XV in his previous post.

He is quite ambiguous in his previous postings. Alot of reference to BM and toyota.

"Icic. Hope u get yr coe. Btw did u get the non or gaurantee coe. Feel abit cheated cos bm 3k a gaurantee 6 bid, so sotong to hear my SE say apr will get before u scrap yr car. Cos i also trade in my ride to

Offset 1.5k for that gaurantee. Last time 10yrs i just apply for non but got it in the 3 or 4 bid. Funny that i book earlier and my colleagues book his subaru at the same month and got his ride on the same month. My 2 months later and his coe os cheaper i think. Only BM 3k, rest of the market either 1 or 2 k. Almost forgot MI has 8 bid non gaurante thats 3k cheaper."

I told my OC who wasn't very keen at first after looking at the pic, but she was ok with the features. When she saw the 240BHP and Subaru logo, her sian half and say "not again!? I duwant another bumpy and noisy car that can only hear the exhaust sound instead of the radio!" I managed to coax her to join me in the testdrive with my little one.

That's the impression for most people for Subaru car. All thanks to the MI boss Ah Beng and those street racer.

Anyway, when one of my colleague heard I book a Forester. He start to comment Subaru cars engine are so rough, noisy, high FC etc......as usual all the hear said..... BTW he is driving a X3.

Another colleague who follow me for a test drive was so impress with XT.

This is my thought process when getting a new car:

    - Within limit of my Budget
    - More spacious than current car
    - Just as powerful or more powerful than current car which is a 1.5 turbo.
    - must be quieter and more comfy

I look at the Following cars:

    1) Mazda 3 2.0, felt it's a status quo rather than improvement, esp the space and power. But loved the features. OC not keen and question whether it's wise to go back NA since I love my turbo so much.

    2) Used Golf GTI, worked out the cost and depreciation and dropped the idea. The condition of the car is not too good for the asking price. Oc complained it as small as my current car, not an upgrade of space for her.

    3) Ford Kuga and it set the standard for me in features. OC loved it. but the price and popularity stopped me. I hardly see Kugas on the road and that scares me.

    added the follow wishlist:

    - Big sunroof, OC's choice

    - auto tailgate

    3) Mazda CX5, very nice, but lack features and above budget. 2.5l NA disappointing. smaller interior and boot. Wife dun like the Mazda brand

    4) VW Tiguan, packed with features and nice drive, OC love it. Price is way above Kuga. VW reputation scares me abit.

    5) Qasqhai, ok features and nice looking, OC is ok but felt the power will not satisfy me. Lack of Sunroof puts her off.

I was stumped. My choice was the Kuga but I was not happy with the price. One night I just do a filtering in SGCARMART based on my criteria of budget, features and power and the FXT came into the list. At first I thought it's not very attactive then I look at the specs and features. There is no car with that power, that much features at that price! That is if you can swallow the looks.

Next day I called MI and the first thing I ask is "how much is the insurance" knowing the rumors about Subaru's high premium. The SE got back to me on the price and I was smiling. It was only 200 more than my current car!

While everyone tested the power in the testdrive, I slow like a turtle to feel the comfort level of the car are normal speed. Immediate Seal of approval from OC! The little one was like climbing up and down and having fun!

    The rest is history.

Don't be so shiok with your purchase. Very soon you will be poisoned by all these Bros who gave you praises. Be prepared to set aside another $10K for these poison! And we promise we don't tell your OC. But u buy Kopi.

Me book back Altis. Thats why i say i dnt wnt to regret not getting an XV.

No offence but that is kind of retrograde kind of logic here.

I usually do my research and ask all my questions about the various contenders before I book. And when I book, I am sure I have eliminated most chances of regret.

Ya, Altis is quite fool proof. My uncle drive one too...

Maybe Forester is cater to diff breed of drivers, it is fun to drive and handle etc & most Forester owners less concern about FC (anyway, the FC of Forester is reasonable when compare to other cars that have same cc and power). Overall, it is value for money choice although it is not the lowest cost (when u want to compare in every dept i.e. FC, road tax, insurance etc.)

    MIT EX 1.5?
You will get around 8 to 9 on the FXT.

Yes I'm driving MIT EX 1.5 and its FC is deteriorating due to aging engine... Oh turbo is 8-9? So I assumed NA should be 10-11 or better? Cos love this car but concerned abt FC & maintenance...
