For any Director of Marketing I think its just not a good idea to insult your customers

so that people write in to your Facebook saying I will not buy your product.

The funny thing is the people that wrote in may not even buy his product or

even know what it is. I thought he was running the 99 cent shop.

Anyway any good Dictator of Marketing would be telling his customers how smart they are,

how great they are, how wonderful they are so they buy even more.

Whats up with Marketing Directors these days, last week we had one that couldn't

market himself and get a job and this week we have one that insults his customers.

    Cannot wait for next week.

    :D

This aussie gentlemen called all Singaporeans low IQ people in his replies to the girl. It does not take a genius to figure out that his boss, also a Singaporean, may be a tat upset with his remarks.

When I was working for someone else in the past, common sense dictated that I don't call my boss a retart. He was paying me to support myself and my family...

Why would he pay for someone with no common sense?

No need official launch lah.... in Singapore already have PokeMoan Go since independence....... it had been located mainly in Keong Siak, Kelantan and Geylang.

But in recent years, it has been reported that most PokeMoan Go activities are concentrated in Geylang....The way our government intended it to be.

Blue power-up pills are available as add-on purchase. Gamers are advised to purchase and use latex armour strictly to prevent unwanted new baby monsters and transmission of viruses.....

Can play ahead of the official launch. Article say got one woman caught 8 pokemon today liao.

This director of marketing is looking for a job.

I think someone fr the coy did mentioned they did try to hire local, but pay requirement too high. So they opted for cheaper FT.

Just for the sake of the argument ...

So where does the limit lie (lay?)

Is there a set of "acceptable" phrases that people are allowed to use to describe Singapore / Singaporeans?

Is there some sort of sliding scale of acceptability depending on how long they have been here and what sorts of connections they have?

How about "balance" - If I say something nice today, am I allowed to say something bad tomorrow?

How about an honestly held opinion vs pure trolling

How about repeating something that is commonly said elsewhere? (for example - insulting the integrity of our very own 154th? )

Is it ok to compare the state of political satire in Singapore compared to elsewhere with a derogatory comment?

How about commenting on the creativity of Singaporeans? Or insulting people for how guai guai they are?

At the end of the day - I don't and can't support a joker that is so rude, BUT ....pushing people into silence in their personal lives over threat of losing their livilihood I cannot support. What next - people cannot support Pink Dot incase they get fired? Or cannot make derogatory comments of PAP incase the boss doesn't like? Is that really the sort of society that we want to be promulgating? Is it really the sort of place you want to live in?

For Sonny case, if it was spouted verbally, may not sound so bad, depending on the tone and facial expressions.

But to write that in text is only asking for public attack.

My limit is, not to launch a personal attack to any respondent.

Sonny may rant about the country, he shouldn't launch a personal attack to any respondent.

Why he didn't rant about Google instead?

If he engage the respondent, point out his dislike of the country, it may not look so bad, resorting to name-calling to the respondent is the cause of the public outrage.

You want to talk stressful... let me tell you... had a meeting today at 1830 in CBD. Left Jurong East at 1715 'cos I thought I'll go early and spend some time with dad...

But... a fcking dicktard container trailer decided to go turtle across 3 lanes on West Coast Highway towards City near Pandan Loop intersection... road closed and me stuck in that mess... all roads to and from Jurong Port and Island are blocked because of one bottleneck.

Took me two hours to get back to Jurong East again. Forget dad, forget meeting so much stress....

I can only imagine the moment Car-lite worked.

Its also the day trucks & lorries-heavy will rule the roads.

Actually I am curious why the CEO can't employ a local for this position? Why is there a need to employ FT?

What is so unique about this job that a local can't do?

A internet marketing guy with the necessary attribute will cost 10k & upward. It is not easy to find them in local market. It is even harder to find local for the "right" price

    Sonny probably cost $10k.

Those who support freedom of speech should come out and say something.

The traditional definition of FOS is to be able to speak without the government muzzling you.

In this case, the government hasn't done anything to stop him from speaking (they only do so if you are an opposition figure). Also, his boss might have fired him, but it still doesn't prevent him from airing his views. He can still continue posting his drivel except it lacks the same bite and air of superiority because everyone knows he is now a jobless bum soon to be on the dole.

    Honestly?

I admit - I HAVE behaved like that in the past...

I've flamed people just for the fun of it, trying to wind them

I've also "ranted" before with similar sorts of things...

It wouldn't be totally out of character for example, if I was in a bad mood to say something along the lines of ...

"What sort of piece of crap country am I living in where I can't even wander down the road and get a decent burger"

yeah...there'sa certain amount of hyperbole there, and it's not reflective of how I really feel... (even at times if aspects of Singapore do frustrate me, just the same way as aspects of my home town frustrate me)

but at the same time, if somebody that doesn't know me took me to task over such a comment - I would be just as likely to engage in a full on flame war simply for the fun of winding them up...

At the end of the day - if something like this is really worthy of widespread outrage and firing - then I don't think it bodes well for anybody...

It would mean that pretty much anybody can be fired for almost anything, and it also makes for a bland and boring place where criticism of any sort is not tolerated - and if criticism is not tolerated, then that way lies oppression.

You might think it's a bit of a stretch - but I do see comparisons to the MRT saga - if someone can be fired for a throwaway line like that - what more are people going to be scared to really take on issues that matter with controversial opinions?

    Its ok Darryn

We all know you are a wind up merchant.

For me I really enjoy it when you manage

to troll a not so bright victim here.

Personally, I find the "Pokemon Go" Saga a bit silly and childish.

I agree - Respect the country and citizen of the country I'm working in...

I disagree - A man is sacked over the saga...

But I guess this is Singapore Standard - cases include

    1. Roy Ngerng sack from TTSH

    2. Anton Casey sacked from CrossInvest Asia

    3. Amy Cheong sacked from NTUC

    4. Edz Ello sacked from TTSH

    5. Unknown staff sacked from PrimaDeli for making racist remarks on candidate

    6. Latest - Sonny Truyen sacked from 99.co

Anymore? Or more to come? Are we really on a witch hunt? Are we getting less tolerant? Even as a Sinkie myself, I rant about this country of mine... BUT I don't do it PUBLICLYon FB, Twitter or whatever. If I do, WILL I BE CALLED A TRAITOR and MUST GO INTO HIDING?

I believe only Roy was stated by TTSH that he was given warnings but ignored therefore he was sacked... how about Amy, Anton, Edz and Sonny?

Yes, we should be responsible for our actions but to what extend? Be condemned forever? Even for criminals we believe in 'Yellow Ribbon' or whatever you called it to rehabilitate ex-offenders... Even drug takers were send to re-habitation centre for a second chance... And these people are worse than them?!! Did they kill our family? Are they worse than the AMTK who robbed the bank? I see our pride getting heavier, ego getting bigger and head swollen in the name of Patriotism!!

We are doing this for our personal vendetta because we strongly believed that they ROBBED OUR JOBS... they ROBBED OUR FUTURE... Yes to some extend it may be true but now we are going down the road of extremism... so long our pride is HURT.. we condemn... so long our ego is damaged... we condemn... and slowly but surely dividing us as a nation...

when a local rant about his own country is called 'complaint' or 'whining' but they dun allowed foreigner to say that.

this is different from the yellow ribbon project cos one is national level and the other is individual/company. The company dun have to fire him in the first place. When the borders/distant among countries is lesser (social media), people are more uptight to defend the border less world. This does not only happen in singapore.

While it may be true that 50% of Singaporeans are

below average in IQ, I would never tell a customer

that as 95% of people will be offended if you thought

increase sales is to make them feel that they are in the

top 10%. The better you make them feel the more they

buy from you. I would target richest people that need to

feel that they are very smart by paying full cash.

Which part of his job description does he not understand?

I suspect he has low IQ and is flushing sheet in his job.

    :D

dun say that lah, if he is hired by a online game company then his behavior is understooded, i.e. childish (in mind) to do the job.

unfortunate not in the property industry, cos how can he deal with T2, Radx and the gurus in here if he keep farking and think that they are stupid [laugh][laugh]

Happy aussies should give chance to us first, in their own great country.

I remember several instances when my family, together with my toddler of 4-year-old, got racially taunted "Fxxk back to China, you chixnks!" along streets in Australia many years ago.And cashiers who refused to speak to us because of whatever reasons. I don't think Singaporeans ever do that to foreigners here.

Hands up, who have never been racially abused in Australia?

when a local rant about his own country is called 'complaint' or 'whining' but they dun allowed foreigner to say that.

this is different from the yellow ribbon project cos one is national level and the other is individual/company. The company dun have to fire him in the first place. When the borders/distant among countries is lesser (social media), people are more uptight to defend the border less world. This does not only happen in singapore.

Yes, and i didn't mean it is only localized in Singapore. It is a worldwide issue. And 'Brexit' is the end product... UK is divided...

It happened to me and my then-GF (now CO) while we were walking along a South Yarra road towards our hotel at night when a car of youngsters drove pass shouted "Go back home Chinks!" and threw an empty beer can towards us (luckily they are lousy at aimming)

These sort of things just gets you down and leave a bad aftertaste.....even though it is more rational to not let it affect you.

During a visit in 1980, Mr Lee warned that Australia needed to open its economy and try to reduce inflation and unemployment, or risk becoming the "poor white trash of Asia".

Happy aussies should give chance to us first, in their own great country.

To be very frank, I encountered the least amount of racism in the U.S. even though I've probably spent the most time living and working there, outside of Singapore. Europe very frequent, Australia racism is different, I think they hate anyone different from their "mainstream" even their own natives. Racism in Asia is more toward AMDK, and more based on class-discrimination, no $$ no talk.

Not sure. Encountered only once out of my 20 days there.

There are frenly folks there too. Like the tour guide who brought us to watch the jumping crocs at Adelaide river. And I always remembered the old ang mo guy who sat next to me and chit chat with me passing his time playing Bingo at the Casino. I dont gamble also but all my frens were there so I just bought bingo cards and a drink to pass time.

To bebrutally honest with you, I will be more worried if that girl did not fight back for Singapore after she saw Sonny's posts. I see that as patriotism, and imho, she did a perfectly legitimate thing. I was happy and proud to see her responses to Sonny. She did not call him names in the process and maintain a very cool composure. Sonny got sacked not because of her but because of his boss.

well said! As much as people say we are pushovers, we do speak up for what is right!

Again, nobody wanted him to be canned but the employer did it for regard of his own reputation, and being the 'right thing' or not, it's left to Darius's discretion.

AS I say, nothing wrong with such thoughts, but when they are publicly aired and exposed, you are inviting trouble.

On that similar note, there may be radicals who do not speak out and they live among us. Sonny spoke out, and if he was not caught he would still be SEO. Airing on fb and twitter, well, shows he was a TWIT for that outrage

When he did sth wrong, the way to do it is now is google the name, and voila...'pokemon gone'
