But strangely, she also mentioned that the firm had already won the tender so why would the firm still require the quotation to be signed? If it is the main contract then I can understand but a quotation?! [hur]And if a tender is won and SCDF can just don't sign the contract then what's the point of tender process?

I doubt it is a corruption case rather a horny SCDF officer who gets too "hot" after fire fighting... and she's just trying to get more attention by linking it to corruption.

Maybe with regards to Fire Safety .... [sly]

Fire safety plan need SCDF approval. :serious-business:

The interesting lives of cabbies: Man hears all about it at Taman Jurong Food Centre
    Submitted by: Busy body
Read all articles by Busy body here.

Stomper Busy body was intrigued by the conversation of a close-knit group of cabbies having lunch at Taman Jurong Food Centre on Yung Sheng Road.

He had noticed the same group of friends, all taxi drivers, meet at 11.30am every Friday, rain or shine.

In an email to Stomp, Busy body said they would regularly discuss any topic under the sun and "would regale one another with tales of their experiences."

At this particular gathering, the Stomper heard a cabby talk about a passenger he had picked up recently.

    He said:

"He picked up a young lady from China after she had a bout of drinks at Clarke Quay.

"She sat in the front seat of the taxi and half-way through the journey started to unbutton her blouse.

"The driver got worried and dropped her off at Orchard Road to avoid any trouble."

Busy body said he is always wondering how these cabbies always have such interesting encounters everyday.

Norway leads global prosperity index, with Singapore top in Asia

In the annual2015 Prosperity Index by London-based international think tank Legatum Institute, Singapore came in 17th worldwide in prosperity, up one position from last year.

SINGAPORE: In a prosperity survey of 142 countries, the Republic came in tops again among Asian countries. It also ranked 17th worldwide, up one spot compared to last year.

In the 2015 Prosperity Index by London-based international think tank Legatum Institute released on Monday (Nov 2), Singapore also came in third overall in the Asia-Pacific region, behind New Zealand and Australia in fourth and 12th, respectively.

Globally, Norway topped the index, despite not coming in first in any of the eight categories - but it did rank among the top 10 for all categories.

Helping Singapore to 17th overall in the world was the economy sub-index, where the country came in first worldwide, overtaking Switzerland which was first last year. At US$240,750, Singapore also has the second highest capital per worker in the world - behind Luxembourg at US$272,931 per worker - and the third-highest manufactured exports classified as "high-tech" at 47 per cent.

For the other sub-indices at a global level, Singapore was 12th in both "entrepreneurship and opportunity" and "safety and security"; 13th in governance, 14th in health, 15th in education and 25th in social capital.

The Republic's worst-performing category was in personal freedom, where it ranked 38th in the world. However, this still put it fourth overall in Asia - behind Hong Kong (26), Taiwan (31) and Japan (33). Sri Lanka was next at 43rd, while South Korea was ranked 66th worldwide.

For other nations in ASEAN, Malaysia came in next highest overall at 44th. Thailand was ranked 48th, Vietnam at 55th, Indonesia at 69th, Philippines at 74th, Laos at 95th. Cambodia came in last at 112 out of 142 countries. In the personal freedom sub-index, Malaysia, Cambodia and Indonesia were the last three in ASEAN, coming in at 114th, 122nd and 123rd respectively on a global level.

The amount is based on average. We have a healthy and growing proportionof T2s, T3s and T4s in our population that earn thatmuch much more to make up for the per capita value.

We must be thankful for them and hope they give more to the economy for us to continue to do well. ???

Just read it with many pinches of salt ....

anyway, we have many rich FTs.. and these have average UP for the total population....

To find the real truth, just walk on the ground... and we will see many faces of Singaporeans that do not reflect what the report says ....

    Oh well ....

I think we all need a chill pill. Life is too short to be stressed over small things.

This year, as of now, I know four people who died suddenly, of which two were my friends, two whom I had professional acquaintance. Both my friends were young, about my age +/- here and there and apparently healthy with no underlying diseases. They died suddenly, meaning today they were here, the next day they were gone.

Life is too short and death happens anytime. And yea, all four were in the healthcare profession.

    Chill and peace to all.

Another case of 'worm' found in MacDonald's ....

Yahoo : Another worm claimed to have been found in a McDonalds meal

    6588fc60-81dd-11e5-a0a2-01d7012bfb49_McD

Yet another worm has supposedly been found by a customer in his McDonalds meal, this time in a McSpicy burger.

The worm was discovered by Twitter user , who was halfway through his McSpicy meal when he noticed the worm on his burger. His tweet about the discovery been retweeted about 800 retweets at the time of writing.

This is the second time worms have been spotted in an McDonalds meal. On 20 Oct, IT freelancer Jasper Lee claimed to have found numerous small and white worms in his Big Breakfast meal.

McDonaldss lab tests later showed that the sausage patty was two to three days old, and that that worms were not likely to have been in the food when it was delivered.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) also told The Straits Times there was no evidence of hygiene lapses at the outlet which delivered the food to Lee.

Apart from this latest incident in Singapore, customers of the fast-food chain in the US have also filed complaints about disgusting things found in their orders ranging from dead rats to condoms.

    link: https://sg.news.yaho...6522378600.html

But looking at the type of worm, it looks like those hanging down from trees on their thin silk thread and when you accidentally touches the silk thread, it makes you feel very irritating.

He must have been walking under a tree and when he was at Mac, the worm dropped into the McSpicy ... :serious-business:

    bankers very stressful

but those who survive still continue to huat

    :D

Gloom at StanChart Spore as bank announced 15,000 job cuts globally
TODAY reports:Several StanChart employees said they were not so much shocked - as the job cuts have been in the offing for a while now - but they remained in an immense state of stress.

SINGAPORE: The mood is sombre at Standard Chartereds Singapore offices after the Asia-focused British lender announced on Tuesday (Nov 3) plans to cut 15,000 jobs from its 86,000 global workforce by 2018, while seeking to raise more than US$5 billion (S$7 billion) in new capital.

StanChart Singapore, which employs about 7,000 people and appointed Canadian Judy Hsu as its new CEO as recently as September, declined to comment on the number of jobs that will be cut here.

However, it did say that the bank has substantially completed 1,000 senior staff exits globally, while other positions will be whittled down through attrition.

Several of the banks employees, who TODAY spoke to on condition of anonymity, reflected the uncertainty that looms large over their future.

They said they were not so much shocked - as the job cuts have been in the offing for a while now - but they remained in an immense state of stress.

We are indeed distracted and confused about what we should do next. We are certainly not in a position to negotiate better salaries with other potential employers. The uncertainty is quite scary. We are neither in a position to pick up nor refuse the not-so-attractive job offers in our hands, said a senior-level StanChart Singapore staffer.

Another senior-level bank employee also noted the gloomy sentiment, but added: The positive thing is that we are getting regular strategy updates from the CEOs office these days.

The senior-level and front-office employees are at a higher risk of being retrenched, with surplus talent in these segments of the market, recruiters told TODAY.

However, those in business-critical roles such as revenue-generation as well as risk-related, compliance and internal audit positions are relatively safe and are not likely to face the axe, they said.

Even companies that are cutting costs would prioritise hires for these job functions, said Ms Lynne Roeder, managing director of leading headhunter Hays Singapore.

Besides the global job cuts, London-based StanChart is also raising US$5.1 billion through a two-for-seven rights issue.

The rights shares will be priced at 4.65 (S$10.02) each, or a 35 per cent discount from the last traded price in London.

Singapore investment company Temasek Holdings, StanCharts largest shareholder with a 15.8 per cent stake, will take up its full allocation.

We are confirming our participation in the rights issue in proportion to our current holding in the bank, Mr Stephen Forshaw, managing director Strategic & Public Affairs at Temasek, said in an email response.

According to StanChart, the capital raising is aimed at financing a planned US$3 billion investment over three years into strategic opportunities, technology and upgrading regulatory and compliance systems, besides strengthening balance sheets.

The latest revamp comes as StanChart reported a third-quarter operating loss of US$139 million, swinging from a US$1.5 billion profit in the previous corresponding period, owing to growing regulatory costs and rising loan impairments in India.

The bank said on Monday it targeted savings of US$2.9 billion by 2018 and will restructure or exit US$100 billion of risk-weighted assets after its expansion strategy in emerging markets such as India had backfired, leaving the bank saddled with huge debts.

Chinas growth slowdown and sagging global commodity prices had also weighed on the banks performance.

StanChart CEO Bill Winters, who took the helm in June, said on Teusday: The business environment in our markets remains challenging and our recent performance is disappointing. We will execute as quickly as possible to get through this transition phase. These actions will result in a lean, focused and well-capitalised bank, poised for growth.

After the restructuring and earnings news, StanChart shares plunged 8.9 per cent to 649.80 pence at noon today in London.
