The F900 seems brighter. Maybe its due to the settings...
But GSE580 is more colourful - look at the grass, it looks greener. Its images are sharper too, able to see the left side car plates clearer.
    Just my observation only.

    Bro Adrian
Any special reason why you mount both cams (F900 & GSE580) only on the left side of your car windscreen? Have you mounted them before on the driver side or is that not advisable due to blocking of view? confused.gif
  • 20 September 2011 - 08:07 AM

How long can the gse580 records?

See the chart from the GSE580 manual.

A 32GB card should be able to record ard 9hrs in Full HD. Good enough for overnight recording.

I am 1.92m tall, head is within millimeters of the roof. So my viewing is mostly from the top of the windscreen. Therefore I cant mount any car camera on the driver side as it will definately block my view. Since my passenger(my wife) most of the time knock out at her seat, so no problem at all. And she does not look up too. laugh.gif

Mounting depends on individual preference lah. As long as can cover the front bonnet in ur captured video.

But I advise against mounting any car camera on the dashboard as it will be a thieves magnet. Dont have ur windscreen smashed due to that.

one thing i don't like about the f900 is the mount they provide.. as you car go over something..the videos shake

the gse580 is better... you can even make out the car plate numbers from left most lane.

now for the night videos... biggrin.gif

Actually both also shake a little. Only way to prevent this is to have a double tape mount.

DOD is known to playout their respective distributors here in SG. Dont know why also.

Initially it was bro Parkingidiot who started doing MO and bring in DOD-tec car cam. DOD gave him sole distributor rights. Then out of no where, Solid Resource became the main distributor and bro PI became like a parallel importer.

When they launched GSE580, Solid Resource mentioned they will bring in GSE580.

Then u know lah, someone else now became the sole distributor here for the GSE580. And Solid Resource kena screwed over holding on to older DOD-tec car cam w/o having rights to distribute the new GSE580.

Karma at work??? I dont know. Maybe next new car cam from DOD-tec will have new sole distributors. laugh.gif

    Congrats on using GSE580.

I believe you were saying that you cant detect the GPS on GSE580 am i right? Its not your product issue. But more towards the way how you install on your car. For my case, i install the same as yours, dont detect the GPS co-ordinates or GPS signal. It is due to the dark solar film on top of your windscreen. If you dont believe me, you may put it at area near the IU where there is no dark solar film. This concept is the same as Garmin, when i place it top right hand corner of my windscreen, i will get the GPS signal much slower than i place it near the IU. Try it out & let me know whether it works for you. Cheers.

the day video is really sharp... and not "fisheye" distortion. looks like a regular video-cam type recording. i only noticed that one or two "pause" throughout the sample!

    but it is rather bulky.

strong plus is as you mentioned earlier... can be used as a camera

so many FHD options now.. it will come down to build quality, reliability and support.., and the price of course.

The fun part is that, it can be used as a camera & can zoom in too. anyway i have not take a picture using it yet.

It will depend on your SDHC card size. Anyway not to worry, when you power on the GSE580, you can view on the LCD of the GSE580 stating the amount of time you can record on your SDHC card. For general thumb of rule, a 4GB SDHC it can record around 1hour 30min in 1280*1080 format & so on....

    Hi Bro,

However for my case will be GSE580, i prefer to use the bracket rather that using the male thread (You need to turn & turn & turn to remove it, my personal feel its very troublesome).

    Hi Bro,

I cant advise much unless we ask DOD to verify. I believe they have much informations than us.
By comparing the DOD Vs DX appearance , i saw some difference, some are minor but some really obvious especially the missing button. If DX claim that its DOD then i will say its imitation. But DX did not mention its DOD so.... cannot say its fake.

No leh. My solar film no cut hole one for IU. My garmin can receive signal.

I suspect the GPS chip inside the GSE580 is a old chip that takes ages to lock on. Even I put it next to my flat window, it took one hour to lock on.

These few days the GSE580 still unable to log on the GPS while I am driving. dry.gif Can you check with DOD-tec what GPS chip they using???

My DRS1100PRO logs onto GPS within 5mins driving from my MSCP. It is using the SiRFstarIII chipset which the vendor informed me when I bought it 2 yrs ago.

This GSE580 is like my Garmin forerunner 101, using old chip GPS chip set. U must leave it at stationary for a good 5mins for it to lock on to the Sats. If u move it when its turned on, it takes forever to log on.

Hur??? hur.gif Mine is ok, never drop. My other mount which I used for F500HD and F900LHD until now never drop leh. Coming to one year liao.

Initially, my mount for the F500 kept dropping, and parts of it cracked after a while too. But parkingidiot managed to exchange it for a new mount.
After changing I had no problem with it dropping anymore (maybe because I used tape to fix it to the window).

    Hi Bro Adrianli,

I will ask DoD for more info of the GPS chips they used in GSE580. Will get back to you once they replied me. I tested mine it does detect the GPS signal, it didnt take a note how long before te GPS detected but definately not 1h. You are able to see the G text on top of the LCD screen when GPS signal is detected. Could you try something, before you drive, could you place your GSE580 at clear windscreen window. Does it detect the GPS signal after few minutes?

My place is MSCP. Put anywhere also no signal. laugh.gif

If u look at my mounting pics, my GSE580 n DRS1100PRO are in the same top part of the windscreen. But my DRS1100PRO, a two year old plus product still get fast GPS log on unlike the GSE580. I still think is the GPS chip used.

Let me try my unit this weekend & get back to you again. Btw even my GPS nuvi3790 also received slow signal when it placed right hand top corner of the windscreen ( covered by the dark solar film). The garmin received gps signal faster when i place it beside the IU ( on top of the car meter, where there area not covered by dark solar film). I tested 1x before i permanently fixed it beside my rear mirror. For the GPS chips info, i still waiting for their reply, was told he is going to ask the RD.

You know the bracket there is a rubber suction pad?
On that pad, new units has a plastic layer that you need to peel of before using.
My guess is you should have removed that already, just incase.. the bracket drop when under hot sun or even in MSCP also drop? For my GSE580, i always remove the GSE580 when i am leaving my car for long hours or overnight, the braket still intact since day 1. My application more jialat than yours, but mine not giving problem. Can take a picture for us to see how you mount?

The specs looks good except the 2mega pixel lens. So far, I know that Full HD camera, the lens is usually 5mega pixel.

I still find the lack of LCD screen is something that is holding me back.

But overall it should be a good car cam. Pricing a little higher than others in the market for similar type.

I did send an email to Pittasoft in Korea last last weekend, Gary from Wowgadgets replied my email instead. And he said it is not launched yet and not sure when it will be in SG.

DOD-tec does has two car cam similar to Blackvue type. They are GS300(w/o GPS) and GS600. From the reviews I come across, their night video capture was poor, same as earlier DOD-tec models.

Aliexpress also has two other models similar, not sure the quality. No reviews available.

For this type of car cam, at the moment, I think Blackvue is the one to get. DOD-tec or other companies will definately release something to rival Blackvue later on. If u dont mind not having a LCD screen, go for it.

Any difference in term of quality of image and function? Thanks..
Found it here too. Even cheaper than the previous one. http://www.dealextre...5-tft-lcd-67091

Came back late today, here are the nite video comparison between the F900LHD and GSE580. They are recorded at the same time, side by side. Disappointed with the GSE580, not as good as advertised. The video is still noisy but much better compared to the F900LHD, however not as good as the Blackview. But if u notice the license plate of the vehicle in front, GSE580 seems to capture it very clearly compared to the rest of the background video.

Will put up comparison video once I receive my Blackview. Postman came today but no one at home. biggrin.gif

after the display is turn off after x min, u want to switch it on again, click on the circular button on the left - the huge white one with the blue led. (They call it the switching and menu button in the user guide)
i think my firm ware same as adrianli 1.1. in the menu, there should be one. it is under video output tab.
in the menu, click on the switching button to toggle the 2 tabs

No, the Blackview car cam I bought from DX does not come with microSD card. I have purchase it myself. I am not sure if the local vendors are bundling any microSD card with ur purchase.

Yes, the Blackview car cam uses microSD card. U can get them at Sim Lim Square or various electronics store. Best recording would be a Class 10 SDHC microSD card, get at least a 16GB one . I was using a 4GB Sandisk Class 4. A 16GB one would cost ard $40, a 4GB one like mine would be ard $15.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think i read somewhere in yr post tat the requirement for the blackview is a micro sd card right?

One more thing to add on...
If I need to buy the micro sd card on my own, wat specification would u suggest for best recording
and also how much would it cost?

Tks in advance and have a great week ahead!!! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

Don't worry bro i also same as you, read everything in this thread.

I bought the Lukas one and am still following the guru's take on the newer DOD one.

It looks like ur lens is set to marco instead of landscape. Check again. Cos the water droplets looks sharp but objects further away is blur.

that's the video that i look at b4 buying. tongue.gif

things to take note of :

    1) memory space. low memory space eg 4gb-32gb : cant record for long. have to delete or copy out the data. hazzle work to be done. even if can record for long, the resolution would be kinda low, hence can only see very near objects. high resolution = cant record long.

    2) battery. built in to car battery, external lead battery or expendable batteies. built in car battery means when you're not driving = cannot record. external lead battery also mafan, need to charge when driving, which you can never get a full charge, cuz full charge takes ard 2hr-4hr depending on the capacity of the lead battery, unless u drive that long everyday. expendable batteries even worst, need to keep changing the batteries. global warming hor... save the earth.. haha

i intended to get one cuz people scratch my car, but end up got a viper security system. much better. depend on ya. just my 2 cents.

No worries, I am just checking if that's the quality to be expected. I check the manual, there's nothing to change focusing.
maybe its the rain screwing with the focusing.
    Thanks again

    Just something to share.

Have been using the Dod F880LHD for a couple of days now.
Playing back video on my 42" Hd Tv, daytime video is superb. I think Dod makes one if not the best dvr for daytime recording so far.

But night time recording is not so good using the default settings.
After days of experimenting with the multiple settings, from what i gathered so far, for night recording, with EV setting set to -1 or -1.3, video is much less grainy. This setting can also be used for daytime recording without compromising much the brightness and clearity.

To all those, esp to bro Adrian, don't mind sharing your video settings to get the best for night time recording.

For me, at least, am very happy with the camera so far.

that's not true for my fhd camcorder & DLSR video usage
resolution and focus depends on sensors & size, lens and image processor

case in point, P&S camera sensor vs FF DLSR sensors.
kit lens vs expensive lens -> image quality
FF DLSR will have better processor thus faster focusing than say entry level DSLR

black view. took sticker out, video quality still quite poor compare to those in youtube.
also, i have the same firmware ver as u. 1.1 as per your screen shot

but i have the night mode option to turn on/off
also, after the lcd display auto switch off, you can turn it on by clicking the switch button.

Look at the blur sunny on left

Osiris and Adrianli, thanks for replying.

The videos taken by my blackview can't compare to the one taken by Adrianli, abit blur blur leh. How to check if the lens is set to landscape or marco?

my video settings is the same as Adrianli's, dun have the night mode option as stated in the manual, I try to post a pic of it later.

there's a mini CD included in the box, does it contain firmware upgrade? I haven't checked it out yet cuz cannot fit into my mac la. haha

Here's cropped images from one trip. cars are stopped and if you notice, 3 & 4, both are about same distance from front car.
somehow the sensor was not able to render yellow plate correctly. all mine images posted so far are at 100%

compare these with my 3 yo cheap SD car cam also at 100% but no cropping. Pix 1 & 2 old sd car cam, 3 & 4 blackview

Guys, how long does it take for your stuff to come from DX?? I order my cam since 8th Sept. Till now, still stucked in Guangzhou!!!

Bro, so you are using a Class 4 instead of Class 10 for your recording that you posted? No jerky recording?
