Looks like It is true. Maybe Wenger feels that he is a safer bet over Morata.

Vardy definitely fit the profile of a clinical striker but my only concern is how well he can transit from a counter attacking style to a more possession based one.

In any case, with Xhaka and Vardy, Wenger is just one CB away to complete his shopping. Stay away from Tah :D

According to the report, Vardy will undergo a medical with Arsenal on Sunday, rushed along so the player can then concentrate on his Euro 2016 campaign with England, beginning next Saturday.

    Personal interest regarding wages wor.

Current 80K pnds/week vs 120K pnds/week ofered by Mr Stingy.

What would you do if you are offered 50% more in $$$?

I would choose the team that will offer me a better chance of silverware n obviously that would be Arsenal for sure. Only reservation I would Hv if I were Vardy is sufficient playing time. The other factor I would consider is how serious Wenger is to win the league. Based on the purchase of the Swiss guy n now paying good money for Vardy, I think he has listened.

Lineker is ex Leicester so what he says obviously is tongue in cheek. Money whilst important can't buy me medals, Hv to earn it n show my grandchildren when I retire. Obviously there will be players who value money over other criteria, I won't criticise them. To each his own I suppose.

    O23, vardy to arsenal true?

TOP STORY: First Vardy, now Mahrez?

Enthused by the progress they have made in their bid to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester, Arsenal are set to launch an ambitious bid to addRiyad Mahrezto their squad too.

TheStarreported that the Gunners are in talks with PFA Player of the Year Mahrez, who scored 17 goals and assisted 11 en route to the Foxes' Premier League title.

Before Arsenal fans get too ahead of themselves, though, theTelegraphclaimed Leicester are preparing a counter-offer in an attempt to convince Vardy to stay put.

TOP STORY: Gunners ahead in Mkhitaryan race

This could be a very good weekend for Arsenal fans -- theSunreports that the Gunners have taken the lead in a "20 million battle with Chelsea forHenrikh Mkhitaryan."

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mkhitaryan, the report says, is keener to move to the Emirates than Stamford Bridge after failing to sign a new Dortmund deal -- but Tottenham are interested and could yet have a say in his destination.

Dortmund have been trying to tie Mkhitaryan to a new deal since the turn of the year, but the 27-year-old has yet to put pen to paper and is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

In yet more Arsenal news, goalkeeperDavid Ospinacould be on his way out after Turkish club Besiktas revealed an interest in signing him.

The Sun reports that they tried and failed to bring him in last year and quotes sporting director Gokhan Keskin as saying: "We are targeting him."

ah seng really fast hand fast leg this season if this is true.

think he trying to spend all his cash for one last shot at the title before he retires. lol

Interesting article on Arsenal's need to change tactics if they sign Vardy.

It is true that Arsenal's intricate build up play may not suit Vardy but on the other hand it gives them a different option to their often predictable style of play. Seems like Wenger is rally a changed man and not that stubborn after all?

Vardy(24) to replace Giroud(16) looks more like it, being a CF Giroud goal tally and style of play doesn't suit EPL, if Ah seng put Vardy as a winger and remain Giroud as CF, i think Gunner is not gonna do great.
And since Gunner gonna raid Leicester, they should bring in Kante as well.
And Mahrez(17) is really a good buy, else the attacking mid looks much complete together with the 2 new DM.
Next is to buy x2 center back for better coverage.

Put Sanchez to the left and deploy a 4-2-3-1. That would be the strongest team on paper. 4-2-2-2 is quite an unorthodox system and I do not think Wenger will try it in his final season.

Giroud or Vardy? I am not too sure as it will depend on how well Vardy cope in a possession base style of play.

With the signing of Xhaka and likelihood of Vardy, Wenger seems like he's finally woken up so I doubt if he will sign an unknown. Maybe a youngster here and there for potential but I believe he will go fora proven defender in due course. But I expect some outs as well cos they do have quite a big squad.

Both could leave. Depending on offer. In gist, Wenger willing to let both leaves if the right offer comes in.

As for Stones, he is a good fit for most big teams. Question is, is he ready to take the step up. Frankly speaking, if Stones is to move, very unlikely to Arsenal. Wenger won't partake in a bidding war.

Xhaka seems to be the tough guy in MF which Gunners have been crying out for and will rotate with Coq so that one settled.

Striker if Vardy signs and rotating with Giroud also settled which onlyleaves CB.

Stones would be ex for sure but if Wenger wants to go out with a bang, he has to spendBIG.

He has shut me up by paying good money for Xhaka and possibly Vardy (being almost 30yrs) and he can shut me permanently by going for Stones or at least bid for him rather than back off once the bidding starts which has been his trademark you are right.

He can recoup some of the money with Ox, Walcott and Gibbs going so not as if it's such a hugh outlay. Prove me wrong AW!!

Quote : Gonzalo Higuain to Liverpool: Reds on verge of sealing stunning deal

The Napoli striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months with Jurgen Klopp said to be a big fan.

And according to BeIN Sports [via The Sun], a deal is close to being finalised.

Higuain netted 36 goals in 35 league appearances last term, breaking a 66-year goalscoring record for the most goals in a Serie A campaign

Jose Mourinho has been keen to bring Higuain to Old Trafford as he looks to land a marquee signing, but reports last month claimed Higuain was keen to work under Klopp instead.

Higuain is under contract until 2018 but is reportedly keen on a move to Anfield.

The 28-year-old was in action for Argentina against Chile in last night's Copa America match and Klopp was reportedly in the stands to watch the game.

Klopp is set to bring in a host of fresh talent this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

Actually Arsenal's style during Anelka's period suit Vardy quite well.

You are right as Anelka is a speedy player playing off the shoulder of the last defender and thrives on through balls like Vardybut Arsenal don't play that game now. It will be interesting cos Vardy is not a typical Wenger signing. Older and notthe kind ofstriker to hold up play and not really suited to the passing, build up play which Arsenal favours.

Despite my often criticism of Wenger, I do respect him, just that I don't agree with his penny pinching ways which I feel inhibited his team's progress. Anyway, we shall see in this interesting transfer window who goes where as a lot of top teams needs rebuilding and there's only so much of quality players available.

Got it from a trusted source that a bid was lodged last Wed. Last Friday, some reports suggested that bid was accepted that Pool will proceed to discuss terms. However, Hector might want to leave it till after Euro to complete the deal.

I am sure that Jonas is one of the LB we are interested in. Chilwell being the other.

Whether is it done deal or not I really don't know. We are so damn close to getting Gotze and that can even change at the last min.

At Leicester, he is a big fish in a small pond though they are the champions.

At Arsenal, he would be a fish amongst many similar fishes of which some are even bigger than him. Howto choose? Depends cos he could struggle at Arsenal or he could step up his game playing with better players and the sky's the limit. This question I don't think even he can answer.

Some players thrive in a bigger stage whilst some will not do as well for sure. Other reasons he has to consider is his family, playing time etc. End of day, he has to make up his mind. Staying put may mean no more chance of silverware if as expected Leicester doesn't challenge for the title again though this is subjective and he might regret this but then again going to Arsenal and if he doesn't get enough playing time may mean he may not play for England again, wha how to choose????

    You nailed the answer.

Since there is only a verbal agreement between Vardy and Arsenal with no immediate follow-up, the uncertainty will only be settled after the Euro'2016 or after England players pack their bags earlier if they fail to progress.

During the intervening period, what will happen nobody can predict.

To be fair to Vardy, when Arsenal triggered his release clause and made the 120k, he probably want it to resolve quickly as he is open to the move. However, once Leicester made the counter offer to match, he has now a major decision to make.

Since there is a major tournament coming, it is absolutely fair for him to hold back on the decision and focus on the tournament. That's very professional of him imo.

If Arsenal is keen, they can wait for him for a decision. If they don't want to wait, always can pursue another target.

Difference between Spanish teams n English teams esp the mid to lower table ones are that they have no choice but to groom their own talent n this means they are more willing to give youth a chance unlike their richer English counterparts who want instant success so willing to buy ready made talent esp since to drop out of the EPL is very costly!

At the top of the EPL even worse, almost no chance for youth to shine unless u instantly settle down like Rashford but that is an exception. Most young players need more time to stand out.

    I'll state the obvious.

A footballer's career is short. They have roughly 15 years. Vardy has about 5 years left, give or take a year or two.

Everybody has different desires in life -

Some want to experience a different shirt, a "big club" atmosphere.

Some like to be a cult hero at their home-town club.

Some prefer even money, regardless of the millions they already make.

Some dont mind sitting on the bench, to win a few trophies.

What Vardy decides, is his prerogative. I can't say what I would do, because I have never had the good fortune of being in his position. I can only wish him all the best. He earned that right to have a choice to make, and thoroughly deserves it.

Yes, no release clause for Stones.

All depends whether they are OK to live with an unhappy player and missed out on the chance to cash in. Stones' contract will run till summer of 2019. By then, he would be eligible to walk away on a free and Everton would not even be compensated by a tribunal as Stones will be 25 by then.

Last summer they can play hardball as Stones need to perform to keep his England chance. This summer however, I think Stones will have an upper hand in negotiation.

Agreed bro and don't they end up like silly Dortmund who refuse to sell when they can and only sell at the last year or worse still let them go for free!!

I respect Everton for wanting to makea stand but they have to be realistic that if Stones wants out despite persuasion to stay then they shld just sell him at the highest price possible and move on. Pool also faced a similar situation with Sterling last season.

Plenty of clubs wants Stones and they can easily get 40mil+ for him as most of the top EPL sides are in the market for a CB and there is even talk of Barca wanting him!

My gut feel is that Stony will be sold to the highest bidder after Euro2016.

Top young English players unfortunately command an extra premium over the open transfer market. With Man U, Man C, Chelsea and even Spanish clubs interested, it is a matter of when, not if. Money still talk loudest at the end of the day.

Koeman can rebuild his team from the proceeds of sale of Stony and Lukaku. Make more sense instead of retaining an unwilling player.

Backroom continuity is the key. That's why I have been calling out for a DoF for Pool.

Dortmund has Zorc, Atletico has Berta.

The roles of these guys is to have succession planning for every positions ready. Planning in advance and making sure they won't be caught out by surprise. So when there is a playing indicating that he is considering leaving, recruitment process kicks in.

When all these is being done by the manager, it will firstly take away his time from coaching and the validity of the wanted players is only as long as the manager in job. Once manager change, entire wanted list change. Different players for the different ideas of the managers

I do see the benefits of this method and obviously it works well as proven by Dortmund, AM, Sevilla etc but doesn't it work the other way round as well? ie when a manager leaves, his replacement must either have a similar idea or willing to work with the players at his disposal/provided for by the DoF.

Problem is some Managers have their own ideas and will want their own kind of players and I believe most of the top Managers are like that sometimes due to ego I think.

The younger Mgrs like De Boer,Emery and even Klopp seems receptive to this DoF but I think JM for sure and maybe even Pep, Wenger(?) may not be so keen on this. One established Mgr I think who is adaptable is Ancelotti and that's why I personally feel he is one of the top Mgrs if not the top Mgr in the business.

Yes, to make the transition easy, the incoming manager must have a similar tactical mindset as the outgoing. DoF will shortlist those similar managers. In fact, it is the DoF job to plan for the next head coach as well, in case the current one is poached.

This has to be driven top down, ie owner must put their feet down to push for this change. Those managers no matter how big the name they are, if they can't work with a DoF, will not be considered for the job.

If the club wants continuity, that's the only way to go.

Agreed oncontinuity and also most cost efficient for sure.

This is a revolutionary changefor EPL so may take awhile for it to catch on and to make matters worse, British are sticklers of tradition. It will takea brave top EPL club to be the first to implement this cos the pool of replacement Mgrs will be restricted to similar mindset replacements and the one small drawback is that the power shifts from the Manager to the DoF which as I mentioned, the big ego Mgrs of today except possibly Ancelotti and Klopp may not be able to accept this.

I see this taking off in the mid table teams but it will be tough for the top ones. Southampton actually sort of doing this currently with Pochettino, Koeman and now likely De Boer, all Mgrs with almost the same mindset and willing to work with DoF, my 2 cents....

Yes bro, so far only Sotons have taken the leap. Beside the traditional mindset, the other main stumbling block is the difficulty of finding that DoF. Person holding that post seldom leaves and has strong tie to the club. Thats why when Monchi said that he wants to leave Sevilla, it causes a stir in the football fraternity.

John Stones is right up the La Masia academy ethos.
Ball playing defender is very rare and is what Barca always look out for.

Whilst it would be every player's dream to play for Barca, I feel he is not ready yet and should polish his game first with a top EPL club and England National team before he goes one step further with Barca. Anyway, can't remember any English defender playing in Europe since Des Walker went to Italy!!

Lukaku and De Bruyne never given chance at Chelsea under JM and look where they are now?

Initially I also have serious doubt regarding signing an oldie like Ibra who's even older than Rooney...

However, JM could have his reason for this move... yes, Ibra will be a short term fix... from the report, likely be just given a 1 year contract... with his experience/skill, he should be able to pose more goal scoring threat that Rashford... which even though he has shown much promise, Man U shouldn't put too much pressure on him & make him the main lead striker if we don't sign another one.. so this 1 year will give him time to develop. He will still have some chance to play, likely in those cup competitions (League Cup, FA or even the Europa) & perhaps rotate on the wing with Lingard.

Martial likely to con't on the left wing or can be the striker if Ibra got injured or rested... Rooney likely be moved to midfield or just behind Ibra... so this leave little opp for Mata which is why there's report of him being ship out...

Depay... don't know where he can fit (at this point, he's behind Martial, Lingard in the pecking order for the winger role)... unless he can impress JM during pre-season... else another one likely out the door.

Januzaj another one who at risk of being let go... hopefully don't come back to haunt us like Progba :TT_TT:

Think you should be asking the Pool board this question rather than me.

I've always advocated paying the market price for a player the Mgr wants so if Klopp wants Mane and he wants to join Pool, they shld pay up but of course not carrot head prices. 20 -25mil is a fair price in my books but not more than that. Just my feeling on Pool being scarred by Benteke n Balo signings that they have a "once bitten, twice shy mentality".I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong on this.

To be fair, money is tight now due to Anfield redevelopment so time will tell if Pool pays up.

FSG has proven themselves to back manager with silly money. So this will not be new to them to be honest.

In gist, I trust Klopp. If he wants Mane, I will be happy that FSG just pay up. Main stand development won't affect. The naming right will cover the cost.

Also, I think RW is a priority signing, hence Klopp willing to pay more for him. Zielinski on the other hand, he insisted not to match Udinese asking price although the difference is only 3m

Mino Raiola is confident Balotelli will sign for Besiktas, after offering the striker to the Turkish club. [Calciomercato]

Beskitas Sporting director Erdal Torunogullari says Besiktas would rather keep Mario Gomez than sign Mario Balotelli.

Erdal We know Raiola well. Hes even said Balotelli will go to Besiktas, but its not like that. Were not interested, our priority is to hold on to Mario Gomez. This month will be decisive, everything depends on him (Gomez). Only then will we decide what to do."

"You'll never walk alone" is definitely an iconic song which makes goose pimples and your hairs stand on ends especially when sung in an enclosed stadium. A quick check tells you an amazing story.

The Gerry and the Pacemakers song version was first adopted by Liverpool FC fans as their theme football song.

The song was later adopted by Scottish teamCelticand is now sung by their fans prior to every homeEuropean tie.

Could be a number of reasons. Maybe both Wanyama and Clyne have been good boys, didnt caused Southampton any trouble, thats why Southampton asked for reasonable transfer fees. Even Lambert's fee also reasonable coz Lambert is not only a good boy but contributed a lot to Southampton's success.

Some players need a run of games to show their worth. Starting n stopping upsets rhythm n sometimes confidence as well. Joe Allen is one of these kind of players n that's why some of them prefer to leave even for a lower placed team so as to play more regularly n prove themselves. Think Benteke is another one but the stakes are high in EPL so can't afford this kind of luxury I'm afraid.

To a certain extent I do agree with u that the upping of pay has more say than his loyalty but then again not really wrong to say he has stayed loyal to Leicester.

Besides loyalty n money, other factors which helped Vardy decide on staying could be more playing time, team style suited to his strengths, familiarity, being a big fish at Leicester compared to being amongst similar or bigger fishes at Arsenal etc. Like anyone deciding on a new job, I'm sure he weighed the pros n cons before deciding n I won't fault him either way he chooses.

Should he continue to prosper at Leicester, he would look back later to say he made the right choice but on the flip side, if Arsenal go on to bigger things as expected next season, he could rue not being part of the Gunners set up but aren't we all wiser on hindsight?

Nothing wrong to move for money as afterall he is a professional n more so for Vardy who has only reap his rewards at such a late stage of his career. What pisses off most fans is the way some players go about it like forcing a move, publicly denouncing his club etc. Vardy has done none of this so hypothetically, I'm sure if he had chosen to move to Arsenal, the Leicester fans whilst admittedly disappointed, would not have begrudge him his move to a bigger club after all.

i dont tink it affects much for their reputation if they get fired. so many good managers hv gotten the sack, n yet they still received offers fm big clubs. cos for managers, being sacked has many reasons, not only bcos they r not good. so while not affecting his reputation n at the same time getting the huge payout, its really no big loss for blanc.

There will be no effect to EPL clubs as far as UCL n UEL is concerned. Some European countries who are not in EU also take part so status quo.

As far as players r concerned, no more free pass for players from EU countries to ply their trade in EPL. Instead they will follow players coming from rest of the world like South America where they have a criteria to assess whether work permit will be granted.

Eg Kante n Payet will need a work permit this summer unlike last and they might not even get it based on their lack of International caps last Year. But of course those already plying their trade here with contracts will not be told to leave but they may need to get a work permit when their contract expires.

The Brits had voted to leave the EU, so what will happen to those players from the EU in EPL? They will need work permit to play in Uk?

More English youths given a chance would likely mean some gems being uncovered as they will have more playing time unlike the present situation. The foreign players improving the English I don't quite agree cos the foreign players are blocking the English players route so how to improve them? Many didn't realise that even though the personnel within the transfer committee are around, the way they operate is different now. BR was part of the committee with veto rights but Klopp has the transfer committee working for him.

Frankly, the only one whom the TC has strong recommendation in is Karius. Hunter and Fallows know Karius since Man City days. Other than that, Buvac recommended Grujic, Klopp personally wanted Matip and Zielinski, Wagner recommended Chilwell.

Mane when he was in RB Salzburg was already wanted by Klopp when he was BVB. Though not first choice, it is no surprise that Klopp targeting him after losing Dembele.

Thus, no idea why some sections of Pool fans are abusing the TC over the targets. If they are unhappy, why not just call for Klopp to be sacked then.

Personally, I do not believe in condemning a player before he even started kicking the ball for his new club.

I like Mane. Skilful, quick n dares to take on defenders. Last year Man U were rumoured to want him n the United fans were up in arms cos they had bigger targets lined up, they were also questioning Martial when he joined. Must admit I also scratching my head on Martial but I always believe to give players a chance esp since the Mgr wants him so totally agree with u.

As i always say, back the Mgr up but it's also a fact of buying players that some won't turn out right for various reasons but that should not deter a club as even the best Mgrs get it wrong sometimes. Fergie with Bebe, JM selling de Bruyne n Lukaku n many more.

The Polish Zielinski doesn't seem impressive so far at Euros but will Hv to trust Klopp on this. One more chance to see him Tonite!

scoring very regularly in the la liga is quite common. I doubt they can do likewise in the EPL where even the smaller clubs are pretty competitive and can cause an upset any day with a bigger club.

South American team to win WC is not so easy, basically their defense is not that good. When Brazil last won, in fact whenever they won, it was the attack/midfield that stood out. Same with Argentina too.

With a good attack, they could hope to beat/outscore opponents, especially European ones.

Now that some European countries are quite good at attack, it is easier for the South American defense to be breached. With a goalie that is a reserve at Man U plus defenders like Rojo, Funes Mori, Otemendi (all of whom did not look top tier in EPL), it will not be easy for Argentina to win WC.

RespectedEchojournalist Ian Doyle has revealed that Brendan Rodgers rejected the chance to bring Sadio Mane to the club two years ago.

Doyle writes that Mane was heavily scouted by the club, but Rodgers choose to ignore the staffs advice and was thus left with little wriggle room when the transfer committee decided to take a 16 million gamble on Italian misfit Mario Balotelli.

Doyle also reports that Mane is a player whom Klopp was extremely interested in during his time at Dortmund.

Klopp watched the player developed at Red BullSalzburg and wanted to bring him to Germany, but the deal never materialised.

We could have had Mane for 12m but got Bolotelli for 16 instead.

    Him again.

Do you know who did BR go for in favour of Mane who was recommended by the committee?

    Lallana.

Ended up, Southampton signed Mane as the replacement and now we sign the replacement as well.
