You could be right cos I don't understand the logic of BM so keen on getting rid of Goetze. First choice for his country and cant even get into the BM squad is illogical to me.
Different manager sees players differently I guess. Low might find him fitting his German team but Pep and Ancelotti might not see him as good a fit to their teams at Bayern.

I can accept different Mgrs disagreeing on which players fit their plans but to discard him totally I find it strange and makes me believe it could be more than meets the eye. Personally I thinkit's a club decision rather than the individual Mgr's.

Yeah, many Man U fans like to sing YNWA because in their hearts, they know what it means. Remember Liverpool is first to do so. It's a fact, no dispute.

Could be a number of reasons. Maybe both Wanyama and Clyne have been good boys, didnt caused Southampton any trouble, thats why Southampton asked for reasonable transfer fees. Even Lambert's fee also reasonable coz Lambert is not only a good boy but contributed a lot to Southampton's success.

Some players need a run of games to show their worth. Starting n stopping upsets rhythm n sometimes confidence as well. Joe Allen is one of these kind of players n that's why some of them prefer to leave even for a lower placed team so as to play more regularly n prove themselves. Think Benteke is another one but the stakes are high in EPL so can't afford this kind of luxury I'm afraid.

Respect for Vardy just went up a notchvardy rejected arsenal n staying at leicester.
Wow. Super big golden handshake.
Emery to take over apparently
I don see it as much of a loyalty. More likely cos leicester upped his salary to match ars offer. If lei hadnt done that, i tink he would hv gone. Its like, my company offering me a big salary, n im already comfortable in the current plc, y move?Respect for Vardy just went up a notch
No loss for blanc. I will b glad to b sacked if my severance package is that big.
For these guys, it's not a matter of pay but more of professional pride cos being sacked is a black mark in your resume but admittedly almost all football managers have been sacked at least once even JM n of course the big severance pay helps to cushion this blow.

This is the main point here, not loyalty, not stepdown, not whateva, it all boils down to money. there will be no smoke without fire.

To a certain extent I do agree with u that the upping of pay has more say than his loyalty but then again not really wrong to say he has stayed loyal to Leicester.
Besides loyalty n money, other factors which helped Vardy decide on staying could be more playing time, team style suited to his strengths, familiarity, being a big fish at Leicester compared to being amongst similar or bigger fishes at Arsenal etc. Like anyone deciding on a new job, I'm sure he weighed the pros n cons before deciding n I won't fault him either way he chooses.
Should he continue to prosper at Leicester, he would look back later to say he made the right choice but on the flip side, if Arsenal go on to bigger things as expected next season, he could rue not being part of the Gunners set up but aren't we all wiser on hindsight?
This is the main point here, not loyalty, not stepdown, not whateva, it all boils down to money. there will be no smoke without fire.
Nothing wrong to move for money as afterall he is a professional n more so for Vardy who has only reap his rewards at such a late stage of his career. What pisses off most fans is the way some players go about it like forcing a move, publicly denouncing his club etc. Vardy has done none of this so hypothetically, I'm sure if he had chosen to move to Arsenal, the Leicester fans whilst admittedly disappointed, would not have begrudge him his move to a bigger club after all.
For sure, Leicester upped his salary. But he would gotten a similar wage increase anyway, if not more, if he goes to another club.I don see it as much of a loyalty. i dont tink it affects much for their reputation if they get fired. so many good managers hv gotten the sack, n yet they still received offers fm big clubs. cos for managers, being sacked has many reasons, not only bcos they r not good. so while not affecting his reputation n at the same time getting the huge payout, its really no big loss for blanc.

thats y i say...due to leicester increasing his salary that he decided to stay. sure he will get more or less the same at arsenal. but y move to uncertainty when he is secured at current place.

of course, certainty and stability are compelling factors and that is on the assumption Vardy is not a risk-taker and rather be assured of a place in the starting line-up.

I think it is not an issue for EPL teams to participate in UCL& UEL, as teams from Russia and those non EU country had been competing in UCL & UEL. These 2 tournaments are for all European countries and not just countries from EUROPEAN UNION.
Will English clubs suffers if Britain put out of Euro ?

There will be no effect to EPL clubs as far as UCL n UEL is concerned. Some European countries who are not in EU also take part so status quo.
As far as players r concerned, no more free pass for players from EU countries to ply their trade in EPL. Instead they will follow players coming from rest of the world like South America where they have a criteria to assess whether work permit will be granted.
Eg Kante n Payet will need a work permit this summer unlike last and they might not even get it based on their lack of International caps last Year. But of course those already plying their trade here with contracts will not be told to leave but they may need to get a work permit when their contract expires.
The Brits had voted to leave the EU, so what will happen to those players from the EU in EPL? They will need work permit to play in Uk?
possible transfers may have to be put on hold
applications for work permits and appeals will cost clubs more money.

british players in other EU countries, like gareth bale, will require work permits.

Well said bro, agreed! The positive out of this Brexit is that likely English youths will get more chances n this def bodes well for the England National Team but less EU players will get a chance to ply their trade in EPL n we will unlikely see unknowns like Payet n Kante being unearthed.

one immediate impact of Brexit is the devaluation of the pound - this is will affect EPL's club's spending power.

Each player that a EPL club wants to buy from an EU club just got more expensive by around 7% this morning alone.

More English youths given a chance would likely mean some gems being uncovered as they will have more playing time unlike the present situation. The foreign players improving the English I don't quite agree cos the foreign players are blocking the English players route so how to improve them? Abit like how the China players blocking our locals in TT!
not sure about loyalty if leicester did not match the pay arsenal is offering
Leicester rewarding him for what he is worth and deserved and he repaid the club with his loyalty by staying.
Of course, if Leicester refused to match, there might not even be a question of him not being loyal. Many agreed here that he should move as it is his last chance to join a big club.

Many didn't realise that even though the personnel within the transfer committee are around, the way they operate is different now. BR was part of the committee with veto rights but Klopp has the transfer committee working for him.
Frankly, the only one whom the TC has strong recommendation in is Karius. Hunter and Fallows know Karius since Man City days. Other than that, Buvac recommended Grujic, Klopp personally wanted Matip and Zielinski, Wagner recommended Chilwell.
Mane when he was in RB Salzburg was already wanted by Klopp when he was BVB. Though not first choice, it is no surprise that Klopp targeting him after losing Dembele.
Thus, no idea why some sections of Pool fans are abusing the TC over the targets. If they are unhappy, why not just call for Klopp to be sacked then.
Personally, I do not believe in condemning a player before he even started kicking the ball for his new club.

I like Mane. Skilful, quick n dares to take on defenders. Last year Man U were rumoured to want him n the United fans were up in arms cos they had bigger targets lined up, they were also questioning Martial when he joined. Must admit I also scratching my head on Martial but I always believe to give players a chance esp since the Mgr wants him so totally agree with u.
As i always say, back the Mgr up but it's also a fact of buying players that some won't turn out right for various reasons but that should not deter a club as even the best Mgrs get it wrong sometimes. Fergie with Bebe, JM selling de Bruyne n Lukaku n many more.
The Polish Zielinski doesn't seem impressive so far at Euros but will Hv to trust Klopp on this. One more chance to see him Tonite!

Then it depends what you want, quality or quantity.... except for English clubs, you don't see other euro clubs having the same issue... there must be a reason why... and it seems to correlate to tv rights too lol

South American team to win WC is not so easy, basically their defense is not that good. When Brazil last won, in fact whenever they won, it was the attack/midfield that stood out. Same with Argentina too.

With a good attack, they could hope to beat/outscore opponents, especially European ones.

Now that some European countries are quite good at attack, it is easier for the South American defense to be breached. With a goalie that is a reserve at Man U plus defenders like Rojo, Funes Mori, Otemendi (all of whom did not look top tier in EPL), it will not be easy for Argentina to win WC.

Doyle writes that Mane was heavily scouted by the club, but Rodgers choose to ignore the staffs advice and was thus left with little wriggle room when the transfer committee decided to take a 16 million gamble on Italian misfit Mario Balotelli.

Bad news for Spurs. Good news for Everton
Huh? Out of the blue this one cos I thought Palace had their bid accepted but Spurs set to gate crash?
Chelsea not mentioned at all previously. Thought the Blues were targeting Morata n possibly Lukaku?
Don't think this is a fair comment. He says EPL is a Skoda being packaged as a Lambo
You picked my mind on why the 3 behind, they are offering different attacking dimension that will create more scoring opportunity. More importantly on Mane, he provides the speed on transition that is agonisingly lacking from last season.
Origi and Ings can step in for Sturridge when needed. Firmino and Mane are other options. We might move for another striker if both Benteke and Balotelli are off the books. But I don't think it is a priority.
I know the limitation on Moreno but I have a feeling Klopp likes him. Not as a person of course but what he offers offensively. Coutinho is always cutting in, that's why Klopp want a LB that will push up to provide width. Heard many times, people keep complaining Moreno is out of position when we are defending a counter. But my question is, how are we going to expect him to be supporting the attack and be back to defend? Unless he is Flash or he has a twin. So whoever Klopp sign as LB, if he is to support on the wing, the system must be in place for a DM or the LCB to cover the hole left behind due to tactical requirement of the LB.
As for the partner for Can, as mentioned in my reply to bro Spring, that's the final key position for Klopp to address. He wants Dahoud.
I hair stood on ends when I saw in a game before he got injured where Danny Ings almost scored, and immediately ran almost the whole field to make a beautiful last ditch tackle on an opponent who counterattack very quickly!
He will be a great potential if he stays away from injury.
Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, the hardworking and multi-talented Milner and Lallana can rotate behind any of them. (Not sure if any of these guys have departed).
My choice of the 2 behind is firmly Emre Can and Joe Allen.
no morata please

Right now there is only a few... Baca, RM, BM, Manu....
Fooblacki agree that 4-2-3-1 suits pool much better too. Pool played their best football last season using this formation. If sturridge is fit, then we are looking at quite a formidable front line that can match almost any other team in the EPL. Coutinho with the technical passes and long shots, Firmino with the guile and goals, Sane with raw pace, dribbles...
The problem is once Sturridge is injured which more likely than not, we are then looking at Origi or moving Firmino into the front striker role. The likes of lallana and milner will then fill the forward position.
Emre Can looks the confirmed central midfielder role. so, Klopp will make a choice between henderson, Gruijic, Zelinski or even Allen to play besides Can. I am not sure whether we need another CM/DM unless we start offloading at least 2 midfielders.. which could well be Klopp's plan.
we still need a LB for sure. Moreno can't defend and always a liability during tight games..
Otherwise, the rest of the squad looks like settled, especially that we wont need a big squad since no euro football... toppings on the cake would be a WC striker, another CB (esp if Sakho's situation remains unclear)...
Agree on your comments.
I like Moreno. DMs should help to cover, like what Joe Allen and Emre Can always does!
Btw, FooBlack and Osprey, your comments would be great if posted in Liverpool with Kopp thread.
FYI, my son supports Liverpool. I'm a Chelsea man.
Doesn't seem to have a Chelsea thread..
Gone are the days where signings like klinsmann. Zola. Bergkamp liao...If I am to be brutally honest, there is the reason why we are always looking at the same targets as Saints and Spurs. we are targeting at the same tier players that is within reach. World class players will be snapped up by rich clubs. We can only aim for those who are about to break into that world class status. Suarez is the successful example. So, naturally, if the scouts at those clubs are doing their job well and not frauds, the assessments and recommendation will more or less be the same.
As for Mane, I am assuming that Klopp will be going for his pet formation 4-2-3-1. Striker sorted. I will have Coutinho, Firmino and Mane as the 3 behind. That's how I will use him primarily. 2nd better option, is to play him as a 2nd striker in a 4-4-2 (flat or diamond).
Klopp's priority positions are mainly sorted barring one. The midfield controller.
Grujic and Zielinski are both not in that mould. Only Dahoud.
Nowadays true world class stars cost more than many bombs plus with the champions league lure. No more such transfers liao.
Unless that world class star actually openly declares its pool or nothing. I dun play for the money

Klopp wants him. But can't compete.
That's nice. From Dino Woy to Mammoth Arry.

Frankly, they will only fail to land their target when the player doesn't want to join. Asking price from selling club is never going to be an issue.
Harry Redknapp has put his name forward to be considered as the next England manager.

IMO it's not about getting a better striker than Giroud but more a complimentary one who gives another option from Giroud. This striker could also replace Giroud when he is out injured, suspended etc. Problem of course is to keep both happy.

The signing of Xhaka is a good example, is he better than Coquelin? I'm not sure but he gives another option which I've posted many timespreviously was required (I suggested Wanyama) but Wenger was adamant that Coq alone suffice but now he has changed stance which will only benefit Arsenal I feel.

Lucas likely next one out of exit door.
For Sakho's case, if they are to ban him once season start, or worse when transfer window closed, my conclusion will be someone in UEFA is trying to do us in.

Unless Man City or one of the bigger teams want him, I don't see how Pool can get 30mil for him.
Of course can try to hold out for that price and hope an auction happens esp if few clubs go after him.

UEFA against all English clubs, they only favour Barca, Real and to a lesser extent Bayern.
Always been the case esp when Platini was in charge.

So EPL awaits the arrival of Antonio Conte whose reputation has been enhanced at the Euros.

His preferred 3-5-2 formation is interesting. Years back Glenn Hoddle introduced this to the English League and the English couldn't except this as they were too ingrained into a back 4. Hoddle was too revolutionary for his own good though he proved himself to be a good coach and went on to manage the National team.

Provided you get the right personnel, there are merits in this system. you get a front 2 which keeps the opposing defenders busy and most strikers prefer working with a partner anyway. You still get 5 in MF so won't be overrun and your back 3 will likely be busy with only the opposing 1 striker anyway so seems a good system.

Surprisingly, Wales uses this system as well and what was even more interesting, the Germans changed to this system for the match vs Italy to match like for like! Will it work in EPL? I don't know but I await to see what Conte does at Chelsea cos I'm not sure if Terry and Cahill are the types of back 3 CBs Conte would require. Anyway, always nice to see different ideas being tried out.

KD merely given support to his player whom we all know of the "love" he received from the English media.
Don't think I want to go into that incident again but I fully understand why KD did it. Right or wrong, up to individual. He is definitely not racist nor dumb.

For Italy, Bonucci is very comfortable on the ball and is a good passer as well but I don't think any of the Wales back 3 is comfortable on the ball though. WIngbacks always need to work their socks off in most modern formations but agreed maybe more so in a 3-5-2 formation.

The English are resistant to change so it will take a brave coach to get a club side to adopt this formation which is not new but not used universally.

It can work because of the super strong and tight Juve defenders ..............

lets see if he can replicate in BPL .... i hope it won't work
My view on why this system is no longer popular is due to the lost art of sweeper. In the most ideal set up, the back 3 should comprise a sweeper and 2 stoppers. The sweeper not just the last man but also expected to bring the ball forward in an offensive transition from the back. Else, the only way is to go long or utilise the wing backs. Also, with 3 at the back, it will always be tough to break down the opponents unless you can transit very fast in counters. So EPL awaits the arrival of Antonio Conte whose reputation has been enhanced at the Euros.

3 v 1 no doubt will offer defensive solidarity but most opponents will try to exploit with pace on the wings or using of false 9. The CBs are usually not fast and will hate being taken on 1 v 1 with a winger when being dragged wide. Playing a false 9 against such a system is better as you leave the 3 CBs virtually no one to mark
Conte rumoured to wanting Bonucci. If he wants to implement a 3-CB system, he probably will need to have the central one at least who knows how to operate in it. To get a defensive central pair working together as a unit is already tough. So imagine you are trying to have 3 working together.
Like I always said, there is no perfect formation or system. What you need to assess is how suited are your players and how easy your opponents can exploit the weakness in that system.
Anyway, there are slight difference in how Germany setup to counter Italy. Same back 3 but they use a 3-4-2-1 with Ozil as a False 9 with Muller and Gomez in support. Italy using 3-5-2

This 3-5-2 fromation is nothing new. They key to success of this fomation is whether the back 3 are reliable and able to react against fast breaks from the opposite side.

I remember Rafa Benitez and later BR use this system on-off with mixed results at Anfield. The most memorable event of this 3-5-2 thingy was that under BR where Stevie G slip and resulted in the painful loss against Chelsea in April 2014.
This system will be great if used intelligently but sometimes it can be a exploitable weakness.

Van Gaal also used this playing system with Netherlands during the 2014 world cup in Brazil with reasonable success.

I can foresee that Chelsea under Conte will be using this sytem with great regularity.

Quite detailed info.
Yes. 352 is not new in BPL. Liverpool used it to very good effect under Bendan Rodgers. However, at that time they had Suarez, healthy Sturridge and good attitude Sterling in Attack.
So opponents were so busy defending, that they couldn't attack.
Also, the wingbacks were wonderful!
Hope Conte can bring some players who are effective in these areas.
Then we'll really have a scary looking team!
Go Conte! Go Chelsea!

100m for Pogba ...

158m on Luis Suarez and Toni Kroos

Yahoo : Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Man Citytarget Suarez and Kroos, Man Utdmake 100m Pogba swoop

After five months of reading his name and seeing his face and thinking about his medals, the day has finally arrived when Manchester City fans can reach out and touch Pep Guardiola. The stubbly Spanish genius will be officially unveiled by the club today, and if the Sunday Mirror is to be believed he is planning on making quite the entrance.

Having already sanctioning the relatively low-key signings of Nolito and Ilkay Gundogan, the tabloid reports that Pep is poised to ramp things up in a rather big way by spending a combined total of 158m on Luis Suarez and Toni Kroos.

Barcelona forward Suarez is apparently open to the 85m move on the condition that he can persuade his wife and family to leave Spain. For Manchester. Could be a tough sell. Hed probably also prefer it if City were anywhere near as good at football as Barcelona are.

Kroos, meanwhile, has another four years left to run on his Real Madrid contract and has just won the Champions League and reached the Euro 2016 semi-finals, so hes probably quite happy for things to stay exactly as they are. But City are apparently going to offer Real his 63m release clause anyway, just to see what happens.

Not to be outdone, Manchester United are prepared to complete the worst piece of business in football history by spending a world record fee of 100m on Paul Pogba, four years after they let him go for nothing.

The Mail on Sunday says the Red Devils are willing to pay Pog a 250,000 a week wage that would give him the means to have everything hes ever wanted in life, apart from Champions League football.

There is also a big-money battle heating up on Merseyside, where Liverpool have reportedly joined Everton in the race to sign Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel, reports the Mirror.

The Toffees hopes of having a free run at the 30-rated Belgian have apparently been scuppered by Paris Saint-Germains 22m signing of Sevillas Gregorz Krychowiak, who was the Reds number one midfield target (Marca).

There is a similar tussle going on in north London, with the Sun reporting that Tottenham are attempting to thrash out a 38m deal for Inter striker Mauro Icardi, who is also wanted by Arsenal.

The bad news for Spurs fans is that this bid could be almost entirely funded by the sale of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who the Sunday Mirror says is a 35m target for Real Madrid and he could well be tempted to go.

The Sun on Sunday adds that others who could leave White Hart Lane include Ryan Mason, who is linked with a 10m move to Hull, and Nacer Chadli, for whom Borussia Dortmund are said to be preparing a 12m swoop.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough a set to seal the 11.5m transfer of Atalantas Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon (Gazette), Chelsea have won the race to sign 30m Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly (Mirror) and Robin van Persie has been put up for sale by Fenerbahce and offered to Crystal Palace and West Ham (Sun). Which might sound fun until you see what he earns.

BRUSSELS: The EU on Monday (Jul 4) ordered seven Spanish football clubs including Barcelona and Real Madrid to pay back millions of euros (dollars) in illegal state aid.
The European Commission said Spanish government support, including tax breaks and overpriced land transfers, gave the clubs an "unfair advantage" over others.
The other clubs were Valencia, Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish top flight and Atletico Osasuna, Elche and Hercules in the second division.
The decision followed a two-and-a-half year investigation.
"Using taxpayers' money to finance professional football clubs can create unfair competition," EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a statement.
"Professional football is a commercial activity with significant money involved and public money must comply with fair competition rules. The subsidies we investigated in these cases did not."
Barcelona vowed to fight the ruling on Monday, saying they had broken no laws.
"We have applied Spanish legal norms exhaustively. In this way Barcelona has nothing to answer for," club spokesperson Josep Vives told a press conference.
"The club will defend itself and its fans against this abusive interpretation and application of the law."
Under European Union anti-trust rules, governments are not allowed to provide state aid to commercial enterprises if it distorts market competition.
The EU ordered Spain to recover unpaid tax of up to 5 million (US$7 million) from each of Barcelona, Real, Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Osasuna.
The exact sums would be determined by Spanish authorities, it said.
It said the four clubs were treated as non-profit organisations, which pay a lower tax rate than other professional clubs registered as limited liability companies.
Real Madrid was meanwhile ordered to repay 18.4 million after the Commission found that the City of Madrid overvalued a land transfer from the club to the city by that amount.
Meanwhile, the Commission said that Valencia, Hercules and Elche were given access to overly favourable loan terms when they were in financial difficulties.
Valencia has to repay 20.4 million, Hercules 6.1 million and Elche 3.7 million.
Separately, the European Commission cleared support given to five Netherlands clubs - FC Den Bosch, MVV Maastricht, NEC Nijmegen, Willem II Tilburg, and PSV Eindhoven - saying it did not involve illegal state aid.

Jose Mourinho unveiling: Get set for the man who can banish the ghosts of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United
Portuguese will bring drama, waste, gambles - and trophies to Old Trafford

It was what Sir Alex Ferguson didnt say about Jose Mourinho in his autobiography which was most significant.
Not a word on why he hadnt encouraged Manchester United to make him his successor in 2014; just references which indicated he always felt there was more to Mourinhos success at Stamford Bridge than man-management. He is a greater leader and spectacular manager but it did not hurt that he spent 100m during his first season at Chelsea, Ferguson wrote. Mourinhos way certainly doesnt equate with his own.
The events of the past four days, with United committing 200,000-a-week to 34-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovich, then allowing Ryan Giggs to walk away, represent what Ferguson would always have feared Mourinho might bring.
The current pursuit of Juventus Paul Pogba, in what may prove to be an 80m transfer, would also be anathema to the former manager, and embarrassing, since it was his distaste for the boys demands for money which persuaded him to let him leave for nothing, only four years ago.
But for all that, the man who will step through a side door shortly before 11am in Old Traffords Europa Suite on Tuesday the third new manager to be presented in that room in as many years has the capacity to extinguish the ghost of Ferguson. That alone makes his arrival deeply necessary. As Fergusons successors have fallen by the wayside, the collective memory of his achievements has grown to such a level that it haunts the club. A nuclear option is required to allow United to leave the past behind.
Mourinho is not good news for the career prospects of Uniteds academy players. The potential of a chance discovery which Marcus Rashford and Tim Fosu Mensah were last season immediately recedes. But so will the shadow of Ferguson on the wall.
Expect Ferguson to feature today, as he has generally tended to do on these introductory occasions in the Europa Suite a room which really needs to be renamed or else not used for managerial unveilings at all. David Moyes first mention of Ferguson came 16 words into his own first press conference. It was 18 minutes before Louis van Gaal referenced Sir Alec in his. With his keen ear for choreography, Mourinho will lean closer towards the Moyes method.
Wayne Rooney has been central to the discussion on the two previous such occasions. It was two summers ago that Mourinho attempted to sign him from United after returning as Chelsea manager. He has already made the right noises last week declaring Rooney to be Englands best for over a decade. But the balance of dependency between player and club has shifted since Moyesfended off Mourinho and Rooney signed a new contract which felt like a new signing for United in February 2014. Still new to the midfield goal Van Gaal eventually found for him, his future is more uncertain now.
The challenge for Rooney will be greater if Pogba does arrive, with the view from France on Monday being that the appeal of playing for Mourinho makes that a growing prospect. Uniteds past two years have been far more about demonstrating they are still a world power as actually becoming one and the statement of intent Pogba would represent heightens the appeal of securing him.
The prospect of Ibrahimovich matching the 38 goals he brought in 51 PSG appearances last seasonis more remote amid the far greater competition of the Premier League. Not in the remotest circumstance would Ferguson have sanctioned breaking the clubs transfer record for a 34-yer-old. He only paid out heavy to deprive other clubs of players they wanted to keep.
This is what Mourinho brings though: spending, churn, gambles, waste, suffering for those who fail to deliver quickly. And trophies. And box office stories. It helps that he will find far fewer impediments to shaping Uniteds spending to his will than at Chelsea or Real Madrid, with no technical director standing in his way.
Not since his four years as a Barcelonas assistant manager, in the last century, has Mourinho lasted more than 72 months in one place and no one will be betting the house on this being anything other than a whirlwind ripping through Old Trafford. By 2020, United will probably be starting again, though the achievements of Ferguson will probably have been laid to rest. For me the challenge is always first and not fourth, van Gaal said at his introductory press conference, which was ironic in retrospect. For Mourinho, fourth does not even enter the conversation.

Ante Coric is a 19 year old "kid" lah.
Need 1~2 years of apprenticeship in Pool before his potential is fully realised. Another 'Deli Alli" type.
Succession planning I suppose.
Coric will not threaten Hendo's place. But Grujic, Neves or Dahoud will.
Agree on succession planning bit. Might not be holding on to the little magician much longer

If Pogba indeed do join Man U, it would be the biggest irony in footballing history. It goes one full circle.

Agreed, I never understood this as well cos the continental European clubs almost always have buy out clauses which can be arbitrary but nvr the EPL teams. Surely they can't be that stupid and there should be a logical explanation to this.

MU went through a lot of trouble to sign Pogba as a 16 yo with threatened court cases and FIFA probe before transfer agreement could be reached

But after securing his service, despite SAF's statement that Pogba would be in the senior squad if we want to hold Pogba back in 2011, he was mainly used in the reserve team despite being captain and outstanding player in French youth team. Pogba was featured in senior team only in 2 FA cup games, one as sub, one sub appearance for UEFA cup game and 2 sub in premier league game in Jan and March 2012. In July, SAF announced that Pogba would leave after not signing new contract.

He made his debut for Juve in Sep 2012 and hasn't looked back since.

Any footballer worth his salt would not extend his contract, given this kind of treatment.

From what I read and if not mistaken, the straw that broke the camel's back (in this case Pogba's) was Fergie calling back Scholes from retirement instead of relying on the players available then including Pogba.

I don't think there is a right or wrong. Pogba had confidence in his abilities and don't want to waste more years waiting for his chance and decided to ply his trade elsewhere. A lot of young players do this esp at the bigger clubs where chances are few and far between. A lot of them don't make it but of course some do and in the case of Pogba, he not only made it but made it big.

Fergie like many Mgrs at big teams are under pressure to deliver success and naturally trusts players who he is familiar with. Modern football is such that resultsare everything n patience is non existent. He made a judgement call on Pogba which has proven wrong. To be fair, he gets more right than wrong and he also allows youth more so than say Mourinho.

Life has to move on and if United feels Pogba can add value to the current team which I also agree then biting the bulletby paying a World record transfer fee then so be it. Whether Pogba wants to come back is his call. Chelsea did the same with Matic albeit not such a high price and there will be other similar casesdown the road for sure.

From what my understand is, he finally realize he is not required/trusted in Manu is during a match where all the senior and proven MF are injured, a def was call upon to fill up that position instead of Pogba who is fully fit for that match..

That's the situation I'm talking about but I thought Fergie called back Scholes out of retirement?
Anyway, details aside; Pogba felt enough was enough and decided to move on and fair play to him for proving he is good enough. Whilst he's a good player, 100mil seems extravagant to say the least!

The premiership teams in general, MU and other top teams in particular, are flushed with obscene amount of cash with the new TV deals.

Even during the "hard-time" when MU was saddled with loan and high interest, each Glazer member reportedly received 10 mil in director fee. So better pay them out in transfer than in director fees.

I believe I shared before. Klopp is not convince of Ibe. 15m is a crazy amount, no way we will reject.
With is bro sold, let's see how it impact Sturridge.
Real Madrid also cannot fight.
Man U win!
But what if Pogba only wants RM?
Then he stays on Juventus and wait.
i can see him move to Man Utd though. Record fee that Juventus would gladly accept and he will be offered a more than decent salary. Why not?
More like a headless chicken that runs to by line and don't know how to progress from there.
On a side note, ibe is promising but his progress seem stagnant.

Klopp is fair. Given him a season to carry out what he wants but Ibe failed to deliver. Klopp wants his winger to be more direct, take on defender at pace. At the end of season, Ojo moved ahead of him. With Mane signed, he would fall even further back. 15m is really an offer we can't afford to reject imo.

I'm with you that Ibe didn't manage to prove himself, when given about 1-2 seasons already.

But I'm not convinced about Ojo at all. He seems equally lost, if not more so.

Being lost is ok. They are still very young and learning the game. Young players usually struggle with consistency and decision making in final third. All these can improve.
However, why Ojo moves ahead is because he carried out Klopp's instructions.
I think it is pure mathematic crazy to spent this type of money on Pogba, if he come to UNITED, it met be pure love and adrenalin rush to play for Devils, no something of the past incident on how he left or left his balls standing,Pogba is another attacking midfielder to me whereby his skills may be highly anticipated or heading ability, I do not find him worthy of any sort, maybe his hairstyle stands out more than his feet.

To be fair, the modern wide player is expected to track back and cover the FB. With this added responsibility, coaches look our for generalists rather than specialized wingers like Milner with high work rateand precisely cos they are generalists, end up neither here nor there and likely theywill not have the skill to take on 1 v 1 but the plus side is they covera lot of ground and help out FB and ensure team is not outnumbered in MF.

When both are fit, start them both upfront and bomb long balls forward

Hehe, no one can say for sure whether Klopp will rock the Kop or flop, but he is the best manager for Pool imo. So I am happy that he commits long term. That will allow him to plan for longer term which is good. Happy that FSG wasted no time in tying him down.

Slept late so caught it...
1) English press says that substance in WADA list but Sakho's lawyer managed to argue that the substance should not be in the list.
2) French press says the substance is not in the list but it belongs to a category of fat burner that is in the list.
If it is scenario A, I would agree that Sakho and Liverpool has no case against UEFA and Sakho has to shoulder some blame.
But what if it is scenario B?
Also if indeed is scenario A, wouldn't UEFA whack him for gross negligence as well. Nevermind whether the substance should or should not be in the list but since it is, you shouldn't be touching it in the first place

Indisputably, Man Utd are the pride of EPL. First time I think for an English club to beat Real Madrid to a signing by offering a deal that they cannot even match.
According to Richard Key, Man Utd is very close in getting Pogba.

This is what I call giving the Spaniards a taste of their own medicine. Real n Barca shldnt always have things their own ways. One up to United n EPL if Pogba does come
But can also be called "Cutting off the nose to spite the face" if it's just to keep up with the Joneses.
I mean, paying a vast sum to have a player who's just like another lumbering Balo is not financial prudence but with Juan Mata on his way out (who is a better player imho) and Fellaini (with better elbows in the 6 yard box), JM wants better and instant results. Is he worth it?
For the record, I don't rate Pogba at 100mil.
50-60mil can consider. I don't think United paying that price just to spite Real.
In fact, I don't believe any club buys players just to prevent another club from getting that player, not even City nor Chelsea nor anyone for that matter.
IMO, nice to let the bigger clubs like Real, Barca n Bayern feel how it's like to be outbidded, rejected etc n that's why even though I'm not a United supporter, I'm happy they put one up over the biggest clubs
I am with bro OS, though I dont like Big Sam, I dont mind seeing him or even Alan Pardew leading England just for laughs

If they indeed made the bid, I don't believe Juventus will reject it unless Pogba made it clear that he doesn't want the move.
However if that's the case, the agent would have informed Man Utd and they won't make the bid.

Trouble with this WADA is that they can be overzealous. Happen to other sports as well so don't think Pool or football being singled out here. Anyway, it's a real pity for club, country and player. Lose lose situation. Personally I feel benefit of any doubt should be given to sportsman till solid evidence is presented otherwise a similar situation will happen again.
12 July 2016 - 09:39 AMNgseemingI am a long time admirer of Ah Seng, esp after he cured his myopic problems.

But those gunner fans who pay good monies for merchandise and tickets and the club just lock it into their account with no intentions to compete on transfer market may not be overjoyed. They have backed out on at least 2 reported deals so far. Youth and long term policy is at best idealism. Even if the players are loyal, their agents may not be. With Arsenal languishing in the eternal top 4 positions, one has little hope that they can hold on the top promising young stars. They would go either for financial or footballing reasons, if not for both.

Not many fully grasp the commercial impacts on EPL. The teams do not depend so much for success on the pitch. LFC, like Ed said, despite their recent (or not so recent) drought, they are still No. 2 shirt seller in UK. MU revenue grow by over 30% over the past 3 underwhelming seasons. Arsenal earned more TV money than Leicester last season etc

So it's worth to keep the momentum going by any means. New players, or even new managers to stay in the limelight. Or for some to survive in the premiership where TV money of abt 65 mil is guarantee by just being there.

If Pogba is ex at 100 mil, W Ham just slapped 100 mil price tag on Payet.

If Lambo is out of touch and mere dream for me, it's a toy for many.

If one thinks that MU is reckless financially, the latest report (June 2014) said they have the lowest wage to revenue % in EPL. (Obviously they were help by the huge revenue base) Among the top teams, Arsenal is next with 55%. Rest of the top teams are ard 60%. WBA had the hight at 75%.

Therein lies the spending power of MU.

West Ham put a price tag of 50m on Payet but i seriously doubt anyone will be paying that.

That's the reason why Man Utd will not hesitate to spend big, not just because they can, but also they must. Let's put it this way, they can't afford to have barren spells like what Pool are going through. The business model will crash

The authorities Shld not allow this kind of transfers. Obviously big club milking the transfer market n it becomes like trading kettle. And to make matters worse, the smaller club, Sociedad in this case will be sort of indebted to City n leads to the feeder club situation which the authorities are keen to stop so as to ensure fair play.
Even ownership rules of FC doesn't allow an owner to own more than one club IIRC so this Shld be barred as well.

Eg A player cannot move to another club within say 1 or 2 transfer windows just after he joined a new club. I'm sure the authorities can implement something otherwise football will be cornered by the richest clubs which is slowly happening already and fair play may be compromised.

I've always advocated not being envious of richer clubs and teams buying success and have chastised forumers and fans from saying clubs have no history etc which I still standby but a line has to be drawn on what a rich club is allowed to do and this selling on of playersshould be stopped as it has crossed the line as far as I'm concerned.

In the interest of fair play, networking should not be allowed in football but admittedly it's easier said than done. Football is a sport after all not a business which I've always insisted on but unfortunately it is moving in that direction which is to the detriment of us genuine lovers of the game!
13 July 2016 - 10:32 AMOsprey23In this particular case, City possibly guilty of hogging. They know this keeper is good but can't give him starting berth. They also aware that Real Sociaded are interested in him and thus made this proposal.Yes it's tough obviously but rules can be added to make this a no-go.

As far as Sociadad is concern, they would probably be losing out on the player anyway. So this deal might be win-win as they get to loan the player with an obligatory clause to sign him and should City come back for him in the future, they are guarenteed of a profit.
Football transfers at the end of the day, still a willing buyer, willing seller and willing player transaction. Money can influence but will never be able to force a deal through if one party die die don't want to deal.
As for players not allowed to move within 1 or 2 windows, I don't think it will be received well as it seriously violate basic employment rights. What is being done now though, is to restrict a player from representing more than 2 clubs in the same season. Meaning if A played for Club X in preseason, get transferred to Club Y, played a game for them, he cannot play for Club Z in that season even if Club Y sold him off immediate in the same window.

Bold portion is the reason why Liverpool are trailing Man Utd in financial means now. When we were successful in 70s and 80s, we made no effort to expand the commercial side of things, because of that belief held by the Anfield hierarchy.
Man Utd took the commercial path even before they started their dominance on the field.
The rest they say, is history.
13 July 2016 - 10:42 AMNgseemingAgain there is no good solution in this imperfect world.

If one bars the players from playing in the same league after having played with another club, then one might as well scrap the Jan transfer window. It may hurt the smaller clubs which could not afford big squads, desperate for survival more.

Probably the rules now already in place for the cup competition suffice for now.

I think there isa rule presently that you can't be registeredfor 3 clubs inthe same season but for this case, he never played for City so in theory, it's still 2 clubs so within the rules I think, something like that.

Anyway, I feel strongly on this bartering/hogging or whatever you want to call it of players and feel the football authorities can surely come up with something to stop this. IMO, it's not a violation of employment cos he's still paid and employed not as if it's restrictive for the player to ply his trade.

No. There is obvious disappointment. There is no embarrassment. It was a tough game in tough conditions. We didnt take our chances, they took their chance.
We dominated and created enough chances to score. Sometimes it can happen, obviously with the pitch, an awkward bounce and all of a sudden the player is in, its into the floor and goes in.
We have seen enough to see that we can get through in the second leg. Of course you are disappointed to lose. It was difficult, of course. They set up 5-4-1. And it doesnt matter the team, the level. Teams have good organisation, 11 players behind the ball. Throw the pitch into that, its very, very tough for the players. 13 July 2016 - 05:06 PML23Bold portion is the reason why Liverpool are trailing Man Utd in financial means now. When we were successful in 70s and 80s, we made no effort to expand the commercial side of things, because of that belief held by the Anfield hierarchy.
Man Utd took the commercial path even before they started their dominance on the field.

Eg A player cannot move to another club within say 1 or 2 transfer windows just after he joined a new club. I'm sure the authorities can implement something otherwise football will be cornered by the richest clubs which is slowly happening already and fair play may be compromised.

Too bad. Clubs have to live by their decisions be it good or bad and perhaps they will be more careful of their purchases. Idea though is to disallow trading of players by bigger clubs to smaller clubs for an immediate profit which is against the spirit of player movement.

13 July 2016 - 10:38 PMcashcowSound like Nokia..
"we didn't do anything wrong..."
But they didn't revolve to be a better brand...
Issues of branding issues with Liverpool started the day Tom Hicks and George Gillet Jr bought over this well known club in 2007 with borrowed money and tried to make money from this so called prized "investment". It turned out to be a financial disaster. Instead of improving the club's brand, most of the time and resources were spend on bickering between Hicks & Co and the management team with Rick Parry and Rafa Benitez on the receiving end.

It was well known that during those years, the club struggled to meet the interest payments on the loans taken out as part of the leveraged buyout. It also meant that there was a lack of investment in players resulting in declining performances on the pitch. All that was but a bad phase of the club's history.

Now with FSG on board, it is more of steadying and strengthening the Liverpool ship and growing the club domestically and globally eg physically increasing capacity of the stadium and accelerating the global brand franchise, endorsements and partnership arrangements.

Long story cut short; it is more of catch-up time and it cannot be helped if Man U or Arsenal or even other Johnny-come-latelys has moved ahead of LFC, because past historical glories alone is never good enough.

So better late than never. There is still hope for Liverpool specially if a genuine deep pocketed suitor is willing to dish out the real $$$, and be committed to leap-frog the club to the where it should rightfully be.
13 July 2016 - 10:58 PMcashcowSAF also back him. When SAF recommend, usually good.
Oh wait...SAF is still a much respected personality in the British football scene. So his views and opinions carries much weight.

But he was wrong with endorsing David Moyes for the Man U manager post.

Did he or didn't he has some say on LVG's appointment to replace Moyes as a Board director of Man U?

Now he endorse JM for Man U. SAF could be right this third time round, right.

Perhaps he could be also right with Big Sam, being an "appropriate" coach from a "English" coach viewpoint.

Back on past track record, the FA's selection committee usually end up choosing the most 'politically correct" candidate. Big Fat Sam seems to fit the profile well, very well.

Stock clearance sale of surplus players affects every club, not just Liverpool alone. Man U, Citeh, Chelsea, Arsenal and the rest have to do trading of players here and there.

I do believe although there is a need to trim the squad, the lack of incoming activity is also due to deadlock in negotiation.
Key players to move on are Benteke and Balotelli. Transfer fees recouping aside, the two will free up 200kpw worth of wages.
I really pity Zielinski. Napoli bid accepted. Our similar bid in value rejected. Zielinski refused to discuss terms with Napoli. Now Milan came in with a 18m bid which is higher and get accepted by Udinese too. Will see how Zielinski response to it now. If Klopp's lure is so strong, he is likely to reject all personal terms talk and force Udinese to accept our bid. If that is to happen, will be late in the window.
Dahoud's situation remains unchanged. Either we give BMG an offer they can't refuse, or we wait till next summer.
Chilwell closest. Hopefully by end of this week can get some news.
Leverkusen had been contacted on Tah. But I have not receive any credible info on the outcome of our enquiry. Just hope we make the move if Leverkusen is willing to do business.

Grujic had a good outing and I only manage to watch the highlights. I will find time over the weekend to catch the match in full. From the first friendly, Klopp went 4-2-3-1. If that's what he wants for next season, I would say we still need that controller. Grujic if you ask me, is still a B2B like Can, based on how he played for Red Star.
Assuming Can is taking one of the midfield spot, none of whom we have compliment Can as a partner. Allen, Hendo and Milner are more suited in a midfield 3. Ideally, if we are to sign one to partner Can, I hope it would be a DLP like Dahoud or Neves, or a pure DM destroyer like William Carvalho.

Karius did not choose the level he should play but rather, he is working hard to be chosen by his NT. If this call up his from Jochim Low, Klopp won't stop him.
My point is this. Between going for the Olympic and missing the chance to establish yourself as the No.1 in your new club, after the manager expressed his desire for you to stay is a no brainer.
The matter was brought up to the German Federation for discussion and they respected Karius' decision.
Beside, Karius probably also eager to have the chance to play at a World Class stadium like the Emirates on the opening day![]()

My point is on not allowing a club (employer in your scenario) to financially gain by trading a player (employee in your scenario) to another club (employer) thru them when they never owned the player in the first place.

There is no precedent in our local context and I also don't see any breach of employees rights etc as the employee could simply move from his current employer to the final destination employer without the need to go thru this intermediary employer so no comparison at all and also nothing to do with employee rewards, buying out of contract etc which is an entirely different matter altogether.

Although its not mentioned in bro O23 post, I'm assuming City bought him for less than 7m** so they will makea profit when Sociedad is forced to buy him at the end of the season and that's what I feel is not correct cos City just a middleman in this transfer and earning a profit for nothing.

As for the buy back of 14m, it's a fair and common practice amongst clubs to sell a player and put a buy backclause which obviously has to be higher than the original price otherwise the selling club (Sociedad in this case) will not agree to it.So nothing wrong with this.

**Fair assumption that the buying price should be lower than 7m otherwise why would City want to embark on this at all if it's more than 7mil cos it would make no economic sense asthey willbelosing money if it's more than 7mil.
