The taxi drivers in Japan really come out of their taxi to greet u and help u even if they cant really carry ur heavy luggage!!! This was my taxi ride when it arrived in Japan.

That's fantastic service and I would like to see that in Singapore.

That would mean taxi fares will be very expensive and driver are paid very well.

Jippun taxi ok la, if you travel within a certain distance, the fare is standard rate. Only when you cross the limited range then you can see the meter jump. If 3 ppl take taxi, is quite reasonable too.
They use taxis differently there too, Taxis are mostly for transits. So ppl take trains from location to location, then at train station, jump into a cab for a short journey home (within the standard rate distance). In Jippun can sit in shiok shiok Toyota Crown V6 taxi.
Anyway, compare with SG midnight surcharge +++, take taxi at night there not THAT much more ex la (esp if you is tourist exploring and staying in Tokyo). SG taxi fares now also jump like nobuddy business. SG cost of living already higher than Jippun liao u all scare wat?

Church pastor jailed two weeks over road rage incident

SINGAPORE - A church pastor who challenged a businessman to a fight, then slammed a van door on him in a road rage incident, was sentenced to two weeks' jail yesterday.

Daniel Cheo Guan Beng, 46, a pastor with Impact Life Church, was ordered to pay compensation of medical fees totalling $48.75 to his 60-year-old victim Tay Kim Beng.

After a six-day trial, he was found guilty of causing hurt to Mr Tay on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) near Paya Lebar flyover on Jan 13 last year.
Mr Tay had testified that Cheo, who was driving a black Alfa Romeo, had signalled for him to stop his Renault Kangoo.
After they had pulled over, Cheo walked aggressively towards him, pointed his finger at his nose, and called him derogatory names like "chao ah kua" and "chao ah beng". Cheo then challenged Mr Tay to hit him.
When Mr Tay tried to get back in the driver's seat, Cheo closed the door on him, then grabbed his hand and pulled him out. Cheo again challenged him to a fight.

Mr Tay had said that he had earlier been driving behind Cheo, who was slowing down and accelerating intermittently.
When he saw the car's front seat passenger taking photographs of his van, he also told his employee to do the same.
In his 39-page judgment, District Judge Shawn Ho said both parties were like "chalk and cheese" - the pastor being "polished and glib" and Mr Tay "sincere, straightforward and artless".

He accepted Mr Tay's account and said his testimony was "credible and cogent". He rejected Cheo's defence that the victim had falsely implicated him.

The judge said Cheo was "fierce and aggressive'' towards the victim, and repeatedly goaded him to throw the first punch.
Mr Tay had told Cheo that he was already 60 years old, a senior citizen, and that "fight is not allowed in Singapore".

The judge said: "Frustrated that the victim did not rise to the bait and was in fact entering his van to leave the scene, the bellicose accused slammed the van door against the victim, and then directed the victim to the back of the van.''
He found that the prosecution had proven its case against Cheo beyond reasonable doubt.

Seeking a sentence of two to three weeks' jail, Deputy Public Prosecutor Tan Ee Kuan said it was well established in road rage cases that the sentencing principle of general deterrence applies.

"There is a pressing need to deter hooliganism on the road," he said. He argued that Cheo lacked remorse as he had not only accused the victim of making up the injury, but also lied to the doctor, the police and the court.

Cheo's lawyer Adrian Wee urged the court to impose a high fine. He said the injuries caused, if at all, were "extremely minor", and there was no clinical sign of any injury save for the victim reporting pain.

He said the defence's case had always been that Cheo closed the door, but he did not intend to hurt Mr Tay.
Mr Wee said Cheo's conviction would "effectively end his present career", adding: "That is a price that he will have to pay."
About 20 supporters turned up in court to support Cheo for the verdict yesterday.

Cheo, who could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000, was allowed to defer sentence until July 14 to attend to his affairs and those of the church.

He is out on $15,000 bail and his passport has been impounded.
Mr Wee said Cheo's conviction would "effectively end his present career", adding: "That is a price that he will have to pay."

On the contrary, being an ex-con pastor now got more street cred on the resume and can charge his supporters more money for spiritual advice. Oh wait... another church already patented the idea.

An angry Ferrari driver stopped her car in the middle of busy Orchard Road on Wednesday, causing a traffic jam.
She wanted to confront a tour bus driver who had allegedly honked at her for being slow in making a turn.
Mr Ivan Chen, 21, who works part-time as a captain in a restaurant, told The New Paper yesterday he was taking a break from work and walking in front of Orchard Towers when he witnessed the exchange on the road in front of the building.
According to him, the Ferrari driver, who looked to be in her 50s and was dressed in black, had rushed up to the packed tour bus and confronted the driver by asking him in a loud voice in English: "Why did you honk at me?"
She also lectured the bus driver on road courtesy. "The bus driver responded in a calm manner and tried to reason with her," said Mr Chen.
This went on for about five minutes, he said, until a police car arrived.
The officers persuaded the woman to move her car to the left side of the road, along the bus lane. The bus driver did the same.
ANGRY
Mr Chen said: "Many onlookers also felt angry at the Ferrari driver for causing the jam and whipped out their handphones to take photos and videos."
"The Ferrari driver kept shielding her face with her hands when she was aware of this," he added.
A police spokesman said they received a call about the commotion and resulting jam at 5.38pm.
The officers advised both parties to keep the peace and they complied, the spokesman added. No further police assistance was required.
Mr Chen said: "I felt that the Ferrari driver was too much. Just because you drive a sports car, you think you are so big?"

A majestic raintree is at the root of a dispute between two neighbours in the posh Astrid Hill district.
Things came to a head last year when a worker was left stuck up in a cherry picker, needing rescue, and one of the neighbours felt at risk of being run over by a car driven by the other.
These led to claims in court concerning nuisance, trespass and assault. But though a judgment was handed down last month, the case is not yet over. The conflict sprouted soon after Mr Nasrat Lucas Muzayyin moved into a modern bungalow at the end of a short cul-de-sac in Astrid Hill in July 2014, with his wife Priscilla Goh and their young daughter.
Looming over their wall was a towering raintree belonging to their neighbour Shi Ka Yee.
According to the oral judgment by District Judge Chiah Kok Khun, delivered on June 24, "by all accounts, (Ms Shi) has a deep affection for the raintree".But her neighbours were less enamoured of its falling leaves and branches, which they feared could cause injuries or property damage. In October 2014, they made a request to the National Parks Board to trim the branches and were told to seek Ms Shi's consent.
After receiving first a letter, then an e-mail, Ms Shi said in mid-November that she would trim the tree herself. When that did not happen, even after a reminder in January last year, the couple told her late that month that they would engage a contractor to prune the tree. It is understood that Ms Shi's bungalow has been undergoing renovations for some time and that she is now living in the Nassim Road area.
On the morning of Feb 17, workers arrived in a truck with a cherry picker and started work.
Less than an hour later, Ms Shi drove up, having been alerted to the situation. She blasted her car horn, got out and entered her neighbour's property, allegedly shouting and swearing when Mr Muzayyin emerged.
Told to leave, she did - but returned and took the keys from the truck's ignition, leaving a worker stranded up in the cherry picker.
The police were called.
Ms Shi tried to drive off. When Mr Muzayyin stood in front of the car, asking her to return the truck's keys, she revved her engine and edged closer.
Eventually he stepped aside and she drove off. The worker was stuck in the cherry picker for 1 hours before being rescued by the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force.
The couple sued her for nuisance, trespass and assault.
In a report to the court, Ms Shi's arborist confirmed that the raintree had dead branches within the area of both properties that "would fall, and posed a hazard".
Judge Chiah found that falling branches and dripping sap from the aborted trimming did constitute "nuisance".
He also found that Ms Shi had trespassed, and was liable for assault when she revved her engine with Mr Muzayyin in her path, though not when shouting profanities.
In all, he awarded $4,300 in damages for the nuisance, $4,000 for trespass and $1,500 for assault.
Judge Chiah also ordered Ms Shi to trim the tree's branches by last Thursday, failing which the couple would be at liberty to engage their own tree-cutting contractor. A visit by The Sunday Times on the evening of the deadline found that the half-trimmed branches were still overhanging the wall.
It seems the tree's fate still hangs in the balance. Ms Shi has filed an application for leave to appeal, due to be heard on Thursday.
An interim stay has been granted, preventing both sides from trimming the tree. This will last until Thursday, pending further orders from the trial judge.

Correct you are , in fact Nasrat made overtures to her to and pay himself to get it cut off but why she must make it difficult for him;

Sometimes Singaporeans don't know how to live with each others...... but then again there may have been bad blood between the two of them "brewing" from other incidents which might have led to this situation

In fact I am very careful and extend help to my neighours whom are elderly if got any plants overhanging or issues and they become so touched.
