I will not be able to say what and when to go in as it's a personal thing that each of us feel. If yes, then I can go buy toto liao lol.

I set my target after considering all external factors and also my own financial situation. Of course I have to be realistic and not expect a 10k COE.

At the same time, I would like to see the new XT in the flesh before I commit to anything.

Anyone knows what the true avg FC for NA and XT? Heard its pretty bad at 10 and 9km/l?
Am thinking of either forester or xtrail. Any advice?

    Laurencelau

I'm driving a XT, mileage travelled 5100km. 10km +- per litre FC is what I'm getting. Travel mainly around neighbhood.

Consider quite good FC for such a big car, all wheel drive.

Think behind curtain is the NA version, XT not yet. Or has it come already?

    Nope XT not here yet.

Kelfinity I think 10/9 is not bad for a SUV of this size with AWD.

If I can get that, I will take it for sure.

Both XT and X-Trail are on my shortlist but XT edges ahead due to the power. The lack of power in X-Trail is glaring to me after driving them both. In return you have to give up things like all view camera, 2 emergency seats, DVD player, slightly bigger sunroof, slightly bigger boot.

    Depends on your priorities really.

    Dear bros,

Any idea how much price diff for 17" and 18" per tyre?

NA is 17" and XT is 18". It is also one of the factor that I need to consider in my budget. [:p]

No way. $115k would probably be for NA previously. Currently px list (http://www.subaru.as...o/pricelist.pdf) shows at $122.8k. Depending on discount, maybe $119.8k plus minus.

If one can afford a $100K+ car, paying marginally more for 3-4 replacements of tyres during a car's lifespan should not be a factor.

If this is the deciding factor, then suggest that if you do buy the version with original 18" rims , to immediately trade in and downgrade to 17" the moment you drive out of the showroom. The trade in price for original rims can be very attractive and with downgrading to a smaller sized rim, you may end up paying very little like $200-$300 or lesser for the switch, And smaller rims with thicker profile tyres are more comfortable.

Not worth at all. Opt out of solar film and refund $50 and do outside. The free sarasin film cannot make it all all

Depending on look.. if mounting offroad tyres, those thick aggressive looking type, 16-17 looks much better than 18"

My Impreza's 17" Goodyear Eagle F1 costs $160 per tyre. 18" should not cost more than $200 I reckon.

It's a negligible cost really and considering the 18" looks nicer, I would choose the 18" for sure.

The only issue I foresee like what many have listed is the uncommon size of the tyres 225/55 R18 which makes replacement choice limited. Having read this entire thread, we are advised to change to 235/50 R18 which is more common.

Go for 235/55/18 as it will be less bumpy than the 235/50/18. I have the Michelin Latitude Tour HP in 235/55/18 on my SUV and no complaints. But will cost at least $300 each.Usually used as OEM tyre for Lexus SUVs

only problem is stock rims are 18x7in. 7in rims are a little too narrow to fit 235/55R18.

think some bros already advised alternate size before. anyway Stamford advised 235/50R18, which you can get many good performance tyres / road tyres for.

Just imagine Stamford does not even carry Continental Cross Contact in 225/55R18.

and unlikely to have good performance tyre at the Forester 18" sizing for $200.

my current Michelin PS3 already at $185 each for 225/45R17... it's close to $300 for the SUV 18" size.

With so many people, you absolutely need a full sized MPV like Ody. Else it's a pain for them to squeeze in a 5 seater.

I get you bro. Actually for my family needs, a bigger boot is higher on the priority list and this is where Outback wins FXT. Equipment level wise, Outback also wins in terms of quality and also has electronic hand brake.

But then road tax is not so friendly and power is smooth rather than urgent like the FXT. Plus I think Outback will be harder to sell later compared to FXT.

My wife actually prefers the Outback but I prefer the more SUV look. Anyway will wait for COE to drop and then decide one and for all

I had considered FXT earlier but decided do opt against the driver's car.

Why? My 2 kids - 3 & 4 years old, my parents (at times) and my wife, should have like another bro had said, one seat belt per passenger.

Not having to keep and do up car seat for the kids is one primary factor in my decision to go for mpv.

We are not in the past whereby my parent put my siblings and myself on their lap for car journey.

I am happy now that when there is more than the 4 of us, the addition can fill up the remaining 3 seats in the mpv.

    Just my thought.

Went down to Leng Kee today, a nice SE brought me to Level2 to see the FL XT when I enquired. Metallic brown. think besides the lack of EyeSight3, everything else probably there. Even had memory seats for driver.

never realized that the steering wheel feels quite compact compared to my Legacy's, means I probably don't have to change to a DAMD haha.... have to measure next time to be sure.

and for those who wonder how the STi kits look like, the LengKee Pre-FL white Forester is on it. you can see if you like the front lip and rear diffuser.

Bro, how's the Metallic Brown? Does this colour look good? So far never see this colour on the road yet. Can share your opinion?

I'm trying to visualize this... and the result is that I don't think the Forester will look good in brown. Normally I think SUVs look good in brown because they look rugged and brown is an earthy color, but the Forester, somehow, no...

If you are gonna Ferry 5-6 passenger every day (7-8 pax including druver), the forester or even Outlander is not the car to go for.

If the 5-6 passenger is just weekend affair, or even occasionally on weekend then still ok bec really want safety with seat belt can take taxi..
My household have 6 adults 3 kids.. but daily driving is only me and wife. Weekend with 2 kids, once every 3 weeks to 1 month then with another 2 adults or even 5 adults (but seldom). But if to cater to occasional weekend Ferry and get MPV.. I wouldn't do it la.

Wow Bro. seems that Forester is good enough to cater for 4A and 2C in backseat  . Make me more tempted to go for Forester. :a-m1212:

Someone once told me the analogy (was it JC on Top Gear?) that it would be silly to wear spiked golfing shoes every day just because of the one day of the week you go play golf.

Similarly, unless you go out every day of the week with all the bigs and smalls, it is eminently illogical to drive around a 7-8 seater just because of the occasional family trip. Aside from carting around all that air, you end up being the office lunch bus. And colleagues don't take care of your car, and after a while, take it for granted - the time, petrol, and parking.

I'd say getting something within your nuclear family unit is good enough.

The new colour supposed to be Sepia Bronze. So may not be the standard brown colour that could have been visualised without looking at it in flesh.

Hopefully not like Qashqai's Bronze colour which looks more brownish than bronze.

Got the pics from the link below(existing colours).

I have seen the Bronze metallic in SG before. In fact, that was the last XT available pre FL that was offered to me at a good price.

I don't think there will be a big difference in colour for the new FL models.

True. My initial evaluation is based on similar argument. But still gotten a MPV because the cost of one is the same or lower than the FXT. Thus, I had decided to go for something bigger for the same cost. If I were to compare a say KIA K3 at lower cost against the real requirement of MPV, then the price different is around 20k, so it does not make sense to pay more for those weekend or rare occasion requirement.

Priorities are different for individual and the cost of shoe is much different from a car that cost say 100x more. We buy one and use it for as long as the COE last. Some prefer driving dynamics while others go for the comfort. I like the performance of FXT, and i can get one with similar specs by getting say S-Max or VW Sharan but the cost justification is at least 40K more. I ended doing a balancing act with a smaller turbo and compact size mpv.

To end, priorities and most importantly, emotional needs for most including myself.

Collected my new Forester a couple of weeks ago and have now clocked up about 800kms..

I have noticed a sort of wheezing/whining noise when I am slowing down from about 15kmh till i come to a standstill. I presume this is from the CVT but I dont remember noticing it when I went on the test drive.

I will query this when i go for the 1st servicing but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if its considered normal or not.

    Thanks for any info

Went down to Leng Kee today, a nice SE brought me to Level2 to see the FL XT when I enquired. Metallic brown. think besides the lack of EyeSight3, everything else probably there. Even had memory seats for driver.

never realized that the steering wheel feels quite compact compared to my Legacy's, means I probably don't have to change to a DAMD haha.... have to measure next time to be sure.

and for those who wonder how the STi kits look like, the LengKee Pre-FL white Forester is on it. you can see if you like the front lip and rear diffuser.

waiting patiently for official launch and test drive....

wow so good... I see this post I drop sms to my SE asking 2016 XT model is it here or not he reply nope.. i just to know how is 2016 model look like... I book a car without know how is look like :(

You have any photo? if have can pm me?

For any strange sounds that the service advisor says is normal but you feel otherwise, ask to drive the test-drive car. If sound not heard in test drive car then insist that it is abnormaland which theymust get it repaired.

Nav14 yes, disclaimer already listed above(existing colour). But I don't think it's that far off. Cos if I Google sepia bronze, it's very near to the brown I saw in the showroom. That was the colour I saw on the old XT.

I asked sales guy about it before too. Apparently MI refuse to bring it in as it increase the OMV. Sales guy insisted that MI will not bring in the E3 as add-on accessory too. Well, I personally think that all these add-on technology takes away the fun of driving and safety is still best to be in the hand of the driver.
